I hope I can explain it properly but pretty much everything native to windows does not seem to work properly. For example if I try to open the start menu it immediately closes on it's self. This is also the case for everything else. Other programs like steam or my browser are fine and are working like they should. I did a complete virus scan with both malewarebytes and windows defender and they found nothing. If I restart my pc then everything works but after maybe 30 min they stop working every single time.
Pc specs windows 10
GTX 1080
32GB 3200 mhz ram
I7 8700k

right click start button
choose powershell (admin)
copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented
First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files
SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

it doesn't delete anything, it just stops non microsoft programs loading with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Windows has said there where corrupted files and has fixed them, I just did a clean boot. Will see if this fixes the issue or if I have to go to the next step. So far all I can say it thanks allot, you have been a great help!

Did not fix the issue entirely. Now when I open search or the mail app, it's really hard to explain. It like scrolls on it's own, it's really weird. It highlights one at the time going from bottom to top and then repeats. Going from down to up. Can't use any native windows 10 app because of this but I can now at least open them.

Does it happen in safe mode?

  1. go to settings/update & security/recovery
  2. under advanced startup, click restart now button
  3. this restarts PC in a blue menu
  4. choose troubleshoot
  5. choose advanced
  6. choose startup options
  7. click the restart button
  8. choose a safe mode (it doesn't matter which) by using number associated with it.
  9. Pc will restart and load safe mode
another way to same menu is right click start
choose shutdown or sign out
while holding shift, click restart now.
will open in blue menus

It's not doing it in safe mode but it also doesn't do it when I restart my pc it takes some time for it to happen. I guess I will just give it an hour and see if it starts or not

did it happen in safe mode? do apps work?

how long has it been doing it?

who made PC?
custom or Pre made? if custom, what are full specs of PC? if pre made, what make/model?

might help to look at health of C drive maybe?
Safe mode worked. Pc still runs fine having no problem, I did the antivirus scans with the links provided. But now my entire pc is acting weird in different ways. I can't open up games using desktop shortcuts. It's giving me driver errors. Can't launch a single easy anticheat game. What the hell is happening with my pc???? Also it's I made it myself. I honestly don't remember the specific specs. Don't remember what my motherboard is just the basics that I have already provided my pc is 5 years old.

try running tests from this - https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?p=279
could be the drive, just check it out I guess.

thats not an error I see every day.

Did the other scan work? All it does is looks at values on the drive, but it might need to write to registry too... almost all installs do.

its not a virus or if it is, its hidden well.

how long has it been happening for?

have you got backups of any files you can't lose? I would copy anything now. Just to be sure... try in safe mode since it works there.

Could see if there is a system restore point before it started, and roll system back to it
type "restore" then open "create a restore point"
create a new Restore Point now for C-drive
then open the newest restore point that is prior to the problem happening (if you have one)
you only make one now to ensure you have one to pick

I'm tired of this crap, i'm gonna do a fresh re install of windows. That should hopefully fix it. It also just started today
