Oh boy, another update that may or may not render my PC useless and require endless (re)tweaking to put everything the way I (the user, which is the only one that counts) like it. And for what? Mostly useless additions an OS should not be concerned about (except security!).
MS should instead focus on fixing all the broken things in Windows 10:
- icons don't stay put on multi display systems, great: we need a third party app just to keep the desktop in a stable state ...
- file explorer lags as hell, sometimes when I rename files it reverts to the original file name for a few seconds (or 10's of seconds) and this on a fast NVME SSD! Similarly on folder deletes it shows back the folder. This is a 'feature' since Windows 7 ...
- you need to be schizofrenic to make settings in Windows 10: do I need to got to 'settings'? Or no wait, maybe I need to find the old Control Panel again? Or maybe both? In the end when Windows want's to it just ignores the settings anyway (e.g. with Firewall notifications ...)
- theming? Who needs theming? Not the user according to MS ... Windows 7 was way better
- libraries or user folders or network folders: it's just a big constantly 'evolving' mess. Make up your mind MS!
- native apps. Just for one, photos can't even FIND the images in all the folders you assign it ... Making simple apps does not mean they need to be simplistic and/or bad, although MS really tries to make us believe this.
- login system: using accounts with no passwords does not mean we want the user to log on automatically, these are unrelated things! Indulge me and try to achieve this?
- Group policy: wow, installed Pro version of Windows so I could use this, now Pro disregards some GPO entries????
- uninstall of unwanted preinstalled apps like One-Drive: if I uninstall I really don't want it taking up real estate in my file explorer. What could possibly be the reason for that?
- 'protected' files that can't be removed (e.g. leftovers from old installs). If I take over ownership of files, and give the correct permissions than I want the files gone when I delete them! It's my choice, my responsibility, my computer, my system! Especially annoying if all the 'Windows.old' mess is the result of a failed install of the last 'creators' edition.
- more technical: hardcoded Ip-adresses in applications and services? Bypassing 'hosts' file? Really?
- on and on and on ....
I agree that linux is not the solution for most users, but if MS continues on this path it may start looking more and more appealing ....
