Hi guys, so have been searching for a few days for a solution to this, but no avail. Hope you can help!

It's running a 'Gigabyte super 4 motherboard ultra durable series motherboard'.
(Sorry, not really sure about other details but if you need anything ask and I'll try find out)

Issue:

Had an old computer in my business running XP (don't ask). Basically the other day it wouldn't start up, it just kept opening up the motherboard screen at startup and looping without loading. It was long overdue, so decided to finally install windows 10. I actually managed to get XP up and running again by disabling something in bios settings that told windows to restart if it found errors (causing the loop). Unfortunately can't remember or find that setting again!

Basically got the USB running and windows installed then restarted. I was busy and thought it was done, so I pulled the USB. Now it's back to the same issue- keeps restarting after the motherboard screen.

I've tried to change all the settings like moving the usb to first priority (although not sure whether it should be USB - FDD, -HDD, -CD or -ZIP) , changing the device priority to usb, etc- nothing. Can't access F8 boot menu, only bios settings. If I press tab to "post screen", it just goes to a black screen for a second, then reboots. Can't get the USB installation to run at all. Have an XP installation CD I dusted off, also won't boot.

At this point I'm stuck, wondering if anyone has suggestions? Thanks very much

Solution
maybe reset bios to defaults, its possible the installer had changed settings in bios before you stopped it.

I notice two revisions for your board, I don't suppose yours has v.2 anywhere on it?

tried using USB 2 slots? Shouldn't need to but its worth a try
So one of these? https://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/283/images/models.html - only 2 of them are ATX but 4 of the others are mATX of varying sizes. The Motherboard itself should have a code on it just above the 1st 16x PCIe slot

knowing which you have will help as should be able to find manual then

see if there is a setting called secure boot in the bios, it could be ignoring the USB (windows 10 may have set it up during install)

Hey Colif, thanks for the quick reply. Just got back into work and found the motherboard details
gigabyte GA-H61M-USB3-B3
Manual: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-h61m-usb3-b3_e.pdf

Unfortunately can't find an option for secure boot, even in advanced bios settings. Did find the original setting I disabled which enabled me to load XP again, which was in standard cmos settings > Halt > "No Errors". Unfortunately this is still enabled and it's a no go.

I have the CDs that came with the motherboard... 'driver & utility CD' and 'intel 6 series utility dvd', although trying to load the latter by selecting CD as the priority drive didn't do anything.

Thanks, looking forward to hearing from you
