Question Windows 10 keeps identifying my wired network connection as a new network every time i boot

Hey, this problem started out of nowhere last week. I have a wired connection on my desktop pc and i've never seen something like this before. Every time i boot, network name changes like network to network 2. network 3 to network 4, you name it, it goes on like this. Every boot, a new name and there is this blue notification window asking me if i want to allow my pc to be discoverable. It happens every time i boot, it even happens when i dont boot but just turn off and on the internet from the button on the modem while the pc is working, same blue notification pops up with a new network name like network 5 or something.

I tried resetting network from the control panel, updating ethernet drivers, deleting and letting windows automatically download the ethernet drivers. Nothing worked. I tried to perform scans with several anti-malware programs, nothing comes up. Every reset or re-install of ethernet causes windows to go back to beggining and name the network as "network" again, but when i restart the pc, its network 2 with the same annoying blue notification again and network 3 at the next startup...

Make and model modem?

Make and model router?

Who has full admin rights to the network router?

Run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt and post the results.
Hey, i dont use a router.
Modem is TP-Link TD-W9970.
This is what i see when i run it on command prompt,
https://ibb.co/Wvr5t3N
i hid some ip addresses etc. just to be safe since i dont know much about this stuff. My network name is "Network 6" right now which makes me think it changes every time i turn on my modem, not every time i boot the pc.

Your modem is also a router.

Does the following link show your TP-Link TD-W9970?

https://www.amazon.in/TP-Link-TD-W9970-Wireless-Modem-Router/dp/B013OXVA6M

User Guide:

https://www.amazon.in/TP-Link-TD-W9970-Wireless-Modem-Router/dp/B013OXVA6M

Double check your physical connections.

Two immediate suggestions:

1) You do not need to turn off the modem/router as you do your PC. Just leave the router on.

2) Go into the router's configuration pages and change the lease time. Current lease time is 1 Hour. Change to 24 hours.

For more information:

https://setuprouter.com/router/tp-link/td-w9970/manual-2212.pdf

Lease time configuration is shown and explained on physically numbered pages 40-41.

hey, i tried your second suggestion, no luck.
I dont know if its caused by router settings since it started to happen out of nowhere. i tried factory reset the modem and it didnt work too, i dont think there's anything else i didnt try.

about the first suggestion, power outages are quite often in the area i live in so i try to turn off electronics if i dont use them. its really weird ive been turning my modem on and off for years and this has only started to happen for a week or something.

From the results of "ipconfig /all": The DHCP lease time is still configured as 1 hour.

Were you able to change the lease time?

Note the third link in Post #4.
yes i increased the lease time as much as i can and it didnt change anything, so i changed it back to defaults. windows still identifies my connection as a new network every time, its identified as ethernet 12 right now.

Are you doing any tethering?

Seems to be similar problems when tethering is used.

Reference link:

https://www.howto-connect.com/fix-windows-10-creates-a-new-network-connection-on-usb-tethering/

Take a look at #2 and #3.

Ignore #1 - Registry editing is a last resort and to be avoided.
no i dont use tethering, im using a desktop pc.im really lost at this point. windows identified the network as network 15 in this startup. do you think a clean windows install would help ? i dont know if its related but i think this problem started to happen after a night of no internet caused by a a problem in internet connections in the area caused by the service provider. It was only for a couple of hours but lights on the modem was going all crazy for hours before it went back to normal.

Nothing against a clean windows install per se.

However, unless there is some insight as to what happened/is happening then it all may simply start again.

Look in Reliability History: the objective is to identify error codes, warnings, or even informational events that lead to or correspond with creation of an additional network. Especially entries occurring during the hours when the modem went "crazy".

Try running "sfc /scannow":

Windows may find and fix something.

In the "Type here to search" box (lower left screen type "PowerShell" (no quotes).

When the app appears select Run as Administrator.

Two commands (Cmdlets) to run and post:

Get-NetAdapter

Get-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty

Another thing to do (from Microsoft's website):

  1. Press the Windows + I keys from the keyboard to launch Settings.
  2. Click Network & Internet.
  3. Choose Proxy from the left pane.
  4. Make sure that "Automatically detect settings" option is toggled to OFF.
However, do not change anything - just check and post the current setting.

i installed windows 10 from the iso file without booting from usb since i dont have a usb stick around and chose "delete everything" to be sure everything is back to default. No luck, everytime i turn off and on my modem windows identifies it as a new connection. im on network 4 now. proxy settings didnt help too.

What is the reason for turning the modem off and on?

Were you able to run the "Get-" cmdlets?
hey, as i said before power surges and outages happen often around so i try too keep my electronics off if im not using them.

i just tried something new and im %100 sure its about the modem, not the computer. i tried to connect my laptop through internet and restarted the modem after it recognized the connection, same thing happened. when it connected it connected as network 2 and asked if this network is private or public.
i tried to reset the modem from the button and from its interface in browser, both didn't work.
