I just finished the Win10 part of a build I have had on hold for 18 months. The mobo is an ASUS Prime Z790M-PLUS D4, CPU is i9-13900KF, 128GB RAM, and I have lots of storage. I am using an 250GB SSD to boot Win10 and Linux Mint 21.3 from, each getting 110GBs. The Windows partition was almost used up during the install as Windows 10 created a 53GB hiberfil.sys file and a 19GB pagefile.sys. I was shocked as the C:\Windows folder was only 20GBs in size. I turned off hibernation and got the 53 GBs back.

Why would Windows even create a pagefile.sys with 128GB of RAM in the system? I put 128GB of RAM in so that I wouldn't run out of RAM. If I really need a pagefile.sys I have plenty of other places to put it but I really don't want such a large file in my boot partition. Can it be moved safely? Thoughts?

Thanks!
