Hello all,
So to start things off I have made a Frankenstein out of my dad's 2011 OEM HP PC, it is to the point where the only parts that was part of the original PC is the cpu, RAM, and HDD drive. I wanted to replace cpu just to get a little more power for gaming.

However once I placed the new cpu in and started, the motherboard noticed a change in cpu and told me to go to the bios. So i did and i saw that the motherboard recognized the cpu and then checked the temps and saw ok signals within the 30 degrees areas.

To my fault, i thought that was all i needed to do and i was good to go. That obviously wasn't the case since when i exited the bios and went to bootup i saw good signs when the windows bootup screen was showing. Then all of a sudden it would restart. And it is still doing this. I have yet to see the sign in screen which makes me more anxious by the day. I have tried to reinstall windows but still no luck.I have attempted to have windows repair itself but it cannot find a problem. I have no clue what to do. Please if there is anything i can do to fix this please let me know. Anything will help. Thanks!

Specs:
Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM. Chipset: H61 (B3) lga 1155

Cpu (new): intel i5 2500k
Cpu (replaced): intel i5 2320

Ram: OEM manufacturer 8gb 1333mhz

Gpu: Msi Geforce gtx 1050ti

Psu: Corsair cx 430w

Windows 10 64bit

Ps.
The windows 10 was the free upgrade from the OEM windows 7 that was originally on this pc before i took it apart. If i left out information let me know! Cheers

Didnt update my bios, the one i have is the r2. Do i have to update my bios in order for it to work? Didnt think i need to since the cpus were released the same year the motherboard was so i automatically assumed it would be supported.

Did you do a clean install of windows since the hdd is from another system?? If you didnt, I would

The hdd from the HP will also be locked to it. I would say this is the cause of the looping, and you wont be able to activate it either

So you may or will have to buy another version of windows

What did you use to try and reinstall windows? Flash drive / DVD? It's not for the HP is it?? Because I dont think that'll work either

I used boot manager and it took me to the repair screen and i attempted to reset windows but that didnt work. However i do have windows 10 installation toolkit on a usb drive just in case. Id have to check and see what version bios it is. Do you think it's the hdd causing the problems? Should i reformat? I have some personal files i need to transfer tho

If the hdd is from the HP then yes you should do a clean install.

The ASUS mobo chipset wont be the same as what was on the HP. And the drivers wont be either

Different chipset and hardware. You should do a clean install of windows

Boot from whatever get to setup delete all partitions reinstall windows

That'll be why disk repair comes up. It knows it's not the original system the hdd was in

And I dont think reset will work either. Because it'll detect that the hdd isnt in the HP system

Because of the hardware on the HP. It wont be the same as whats on the ASUS mobo

And if it did work I dont think it'd activate. It'll be looking for the HP hardware wont find it so wont let you activate windows. It may also say windows is counterfeit

How can you copy whatever if you cant get into windows? Unless you connect it to a working system (that hdd)

You can only copy documents, txt, photos, but not programs that are installed.

You'll have to reinstall them. Once you format / reinstall windows

I have a working system its a little slow but gets the job done. All i care about in that hdd are the documents and photos. I dont mind reinstalling programs. So to recap i should transfer whatever i need from that hdd into the working system. And then reformat and clean install windows?

It's just something it supports (UEFI) so you may as well use it

Yup you can either update the BIOS before or after you install windows. It doesnt matter

Dont install any programs like AIcharger if it supports it. Or AI suite. Only thing these will do, is crash the system

Sorry quick question, what if i just buy an ssd and install windows on that and keep the files on the hdd? I know its still preferred to reformat the hdd but i just want to know if thats an option, or will i stir more trouble?
