Hello.
One evening my pc crashed, it happens, there was no blue screen or any information given to why it did. I started it up again, it worked fine for at bit, then it crashed again, but this time it wasnt able to load windows.
I therefore decided to reinstall my windows. I have now done it multiple times on multiple drives, but it is unsuccesfull each time, i get windows installed but after being idle on desktop for around 5 minutes it crashes again and windows cannot be loaded again?
I have reinstalling with only one drive connected, with one ram block connect, i even tried taking the motherboard battery out for a hard reset. Nothing has worked so far.
Based on this, would you say it is a windows issue with corrupted files or a boot path there is corrupt? or is it a hardware issue with the motherboard?
Kind regards the sad gamer...

Hello Kisby93

Mostly it is the RAM that is culprit. However, since you already checked the RAM, you can try a few more things:

> Clear the CMOS

> Update the BIOS (Please back up the current BIOS before updating)

> Check if the hard disk doesn't have any bad sectors (Although it's unlikely, scanning it with the CHKDSK Command wouldn't harm)

> Re-install Windows and don't allow it to update. (Type Services in the Search box, get to the Services snap-in, and disable the Windows Update service from there.)

Please report back with the results if further assistance is needed.

Cheers!! :)

Hello again Kisby93

Yes, you are correct about clearing the CMOS.

And.

Yes, Windows still work without updating. In fact, the installation media that you use to install Windows might not have the most recent updates but has all the files to run the operating system normally. The updates that you download sometimes are not compatible with any of your hardware, and that's when the conflicts occur which may keep your Windows from working normally.

Cheers!! :)

Hi mate.
I should have cleared the CMOS by removing the motherboard battery for several minutes correct?

I just tried re-installing windows with only 1 ram block in, got to desktop, where idle for around 5 minutes again, then it crashed and it couldnt load windows correct again, i wasnt even updating windows.
After trying to use their start repair function i get this feedback:
"Start repair couldnt repair your PC" "Logfile C:/windows/system32/logfiles/Srt/SrtTrail.txt"
Does this give you any idea on what the issue might be?
I will try and run a CHKDSK to see if the drive is having bad sectors though.

Hello again Kisby93

Looks like a faulty hard drive or PSU to me.

Please check with the CHKDSK command.

Good Luck!!

I ran the command and the results where positive, windows didnt find any issues
Since i tried installing windows on 3 different drives it souldnt be a faulty drive there is the issue? Then it must be the PSU but with a faulty PSU i shouldnt be able to power it up at all or?
What about the Log file, Logfile C:/windows/system32/logfiles/Srt/SrtTrail.txt doesnt that tell us anything?

Or could a simple replecement of the motherboard fix the issue?

Hello again

Being hardware professionals, our first priority is to rectify the errors without opening our wallets.

That said, instead of replacing the motherboard right away, I would suggest to take out the hard drive, put it in a different PC (if possible, borrow a computer from one your friends for a few hours), install Windows, and see if the issue comes up again.

About the log file, the name states that there was some error while starting up. Can't get more out of it. :)

Cheers!!

Yea ofcourse a saved buck is always nice, but i was offered an ATX motherboard where my components fits. Would it fix the issue if i replaced it with the one i am using right now?

Hello again

I would still suggest otherwise.

Until we diagnose the issue and find the root cause, replacing parts won't be a good idea. However, if it was suggested by someone who lives nearby (probably a hardware professional) and has physically checked the PC, you can give it a try.

Cheers!! :)

Okay going to put a hold on exchanging parts then :)
But what do you suggest i do now, since the command came back with a positive result on the drives, so they should be good.

As I suggested earlier. If possible, please borrow a PC for sometime, put your HDD in it and install Windows. If the motherboard of your PC is faulty, Windows should run normally on your friend's computer. :)

Cheers!!

Okay thanks, il try it later today :)
Will come back with results :)

Hey again, it took sometime but i now i figured it out. It was as you said, the PSU there was faulty! Thanks for the tips!

After checking almost every component in the PC, it was the PSU there was the issue.
But read the thread to see the steps towars figuering out what the issue is!
Best of luck!
