Oh WOW! Indeed, but only at your ignorance. Keep on hating all you want, that vast majority of us W10 users are very, very happy with it.

I'd hate to disagree with you but the last build was buggy as hell. HDMI audio stopped working altogether and the programs UI elements are still not consistent at all. I really like the under the hood changes but the UI is still a mess and very inconsistent. A lot of work yet to be done in a short amount of time.

I had the same problems with HDMI audio. Pretty broken with my R9 270X. If AMD and Microsoft don't have HDMI audio working at launch, it's a no go. Otherwise I think Win 10 is great :)

Get rid of the monochrome systray icons, the search on taskbar, and the quick launch bar. Make the start menu at least windows 7 like if not win98, and add a classic theme - I want my old school 3d effects.

Alright, had to get that out of my system before I move past the first image.

I really don't understand what you're whining about. You don't like the look of stock settings compared to the past ones, form over function I guess?

1) Whats your problem with windows Aero, or is it the tile animations you don't like? Either are customizable

2)Automatic updates and restarts are what makes me stay sane at work. They're not there for your enjoyment, they exist for convenience of updating security as painlessly as possible. If you always ignore them(idiot) then they eventually will make the decision for you. You shouldn't even be able to turn them off outside of an enterprise environment.

3)While you certainly may be okay with stealing data, companies have to at least give the illusion that they support legal channels. Just because you're a cheap ass doesnt mean you should expect everyone/everything else to be. Where's the integrity.

4)God you're a whiner, I don't even know what to say about this one.

I don't mean to make it seem like your opinion means anything to me, it's just that I think you're pretty full of sh*t and I felt like pointing it out. Get a grip and at least find real things to complain about if you can't help but bitch about everything.

1) Aero can be disabled in windows 7, it's a pointless blingy waste of system resources. No indication from this article that either are customisable.

2) I'm not at work, I'm at home, where I don't want my computer deciding to restart whenever it feels like; nor do I want automatic driver "updates" that break everything. Not sure how losing work to restarts and breaking driver support helps you at work. Security begins with NAT/firewall, disabling javascript and other web nasties (at least running an ad blocker), not just willy nilly opening any exe that wanders along, etc. I don't think I've ever seen a virus that hasn't come from a porn website, an advert, or some idiot running whatever random exe. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone getting caught out because of not doing security updates either.

3) Who said anything about stealing? I'm complaining about the OS asking you to buy things you already own... where's the integrity there? And no, they don't have to bundle <strike>legal channels</strike> adverts into the OS.

4) System sounds are damn annoying. I won't even plug in speakers/headphones until I know they're disabled.

You go ahead an dismiss whatever opinions you feel like. Despite your belief the world actually doesn't revolve around you, opinions aren't invalid just because YOU disagree with them.

It's funny that this is exactly what I was trying to say to you. You're complaining about all of this insignificant stuff that bothers you for some specific reason... System sounds? Windows Aero and having to turn it off? The computer requesting to update important security updates?(Security updates patch vulnerabilities, by the way). Firewalls and disabling java works for you at home, workplaces actually require certain policies and programs to be available. If they were to disable these features because some guy says that everything works great for him at home because he just protects himself.... Well, hell, why not? This guy obviously knows what he's doing. Please, everyone, shut down the Windows update servers. Ol' PaulBags has a problem with it being default on in windows, and we don't want to inconvenience him with a few key clicks. Trust him, it won't make hundreds of thousands of computers vulnerable on our brand new OS because everyone probably runs a strict NAT. Makes sense.

All of your "problems" are with completely customizable things that are turned on. I'm curious, can you even cook your own food, or can you only eat stuff that comes pre-packaged? Heaven forbid you have to follow an initial(one time) step or two.
PS: Downvoting everyone in the thread who didn't explicitly complain about W10 is pretty childish. Not sure how old you actually are, but you've got issues, man.

I'm not interested in changes with GUI. Show us all the under the hood changes and any changes to the Task Manager , Administrative Tools, Explorer, etc.

Oh wow everyone is still having a cry about changes, no one remembers how much hate Windows XP got and look how far that went, and Windows 7 is the same as Vista your just too stupid to realize Microsoft slapped on a new color scheme and made it more efficent.

Good work guys

lots of heaters here it seems....

Im also using win8.1, but i almost give no use to start screen, even less to metro apps... never touched any of the settings in the charms bar except to change login wallpaper >.<

one more thing, UGLIEST START MENU? damn guys, most linux start menus look pretty much like the one in win10.....
I think that hp scan and capture is the only thing i use in metro....

Not that i hate it, I just dont use it.... have my browser icon, steam, keepass, cmd, and file explorer in taskbar.... i use run prompt to type calc or notepad to launch them 😛 (even iexplore when the damned webpage i try to use just refuses to work with anything)...

So for me the win8.1 start screen is pretty useless, as is the metro part of the start menu in win10... (maybe i can move some icons from the taskbar to the start menu.... but meh idk)

Windows 10 is close to PERFECT in my opinion.

I'm also very happy with W8.1. Sure, I HATED the new interface but then I bought Start8 and use the new Start Screen only when I need to launch less frequently used programs. I love how I can organize them there (under "Office", "Video Editing" etc).

Windows 10 can be CUSTOMIZED to your needs if you give it half a chance. You want it to look EXACTLY like Windows 7? I'm sure Stardock will help you there for $5 (i.e. "Start 10").

So tonnes of improvements under the hood and half an effort gets you nearly exactly what you want visually. Yet, still the complaints... sigh.

well I like windows 10 so far except for not being able to choose my update options. hopefully this is just because it's a beta and not going to be in the final version. because I should have a right when to pick and choose my updates and if I want to download them manually or not. that and what if the updated driver that it displays is buggy and you go to roll back to the last working driver just to have windows update download and reinstall that buggy driver automaticly. that will piss a lot of people off.

I have tried for 2 months win 10 and I really like it. It needs some improvements but it is much better than win 8.1.
The best of all is that it brings dx12!!! It will be a revolution in simulators. No more cpu bottlenecks. We will be able to use better all our cpu cores and take full advantage of our gpu.

Wow -9 votes? I will be running Start8 or similar on win10 so this GUI stuff I will disable. Nor Cortana or anything to do with the Windows Store. Except for maybe Shazam if they don't make a PC accessible version of their song-finding service.

lol @ all the "I'm not moving from Win7, it's the greatest thing in the world" crowd.
The exact same people that used to say "I'm never leaving XP, Win7 is shit".
Win8 is better than 7 and Win10 will eventually be better than 8.
Vista is the only real OS that failed really hard to be better than the last generation.
Be smart and don't upgrade until the major bugs have been worked out sure but it will be worth moving eventually.

I can`t believe the number of people complaining about the visual aspect of the OS... gaming wise Windows 8.1/10 are above 7 but you are stuck with the visual crap in your heads.

I`m using Windows 10 and i love it, i admit the new settings panel is crap, complicating some things but i don`t use the OS for that panel, i use it for what it is, a very good OS.

You seem to be forgetting Windows ME. You seem to be forgetting that vista was the next in line after xp, after seeing that turd reluctance to upgrade at all was inevitable. There are still things I hate about windows 7, it's jist less efficent to navigate & change nessicary settings, adding in extra steps to get to network adapter settings etc. Now that I'm used to it I can live with it, but it's still a pain in the arse. So the real question of windows 10 is: how much did they dumb it down this time? Is it going to take 8+ steps to change my DNS now? Heck, is everything going to be 'do as we tell you', all automated and lacking options? Given that this has been the trend with every single release of windows (bar xp & 7, where they learned slightly from the failure of me & vista), worrying that 10 is going to FORCE some things is legitimate.

Add to that constant implications they're moving to a subscription model.. sorry I don't want my OS deciding what I can and can't do, then holding my hardware hostage every month until I pay up...

Just installed 10074 and it looks great. Thankfully they brought back Win7's Aero theme with transparency and 3D effects. I heard that only 50% of beta users are getting the effects enabled. Glad to be one of them. Finally looks as good as Win7.

I didn’t forget about ME I have just never used it or known anyone that has used it.
MS has repeatedly said W10 won't be subscription based so you can stop worrying about it.
W11 might be a different story but lets worry about that when it happens.
I have never had any trouble finding anything in W8. I didn't start using it until Start8 was released so I have never used or seen a Metro window. Just a good old start menu with a search bar that you can find anything your looking for.
If you avoided W8 for a bunch of inaccurate misconceptions like you seem to be implying that’s a little sad for you but you can still hop on the W10 bandwagon and enjoy the upgrades like the rest of us will. It's a free upgrade.

Microsoft should let people customize the GUI, and change literally everything. If they did that Windows 10 would sell huge, because with Windows the GUI is usually the main source of complaints. Also, I am not sure why so many of those posts above are being downvoted for no legitimate reason, that is abuse of the system.

I'm confused. Why are all the pro Windows 10 comments being downvoted into oblivion? As a software engineer, I've been using it for the last few months and it has been pretty great.

I didn't explore every nook and cranny of the OS, so I can't give a full opinion.

But what totally annoys me are the automatic updates and restarts. It might be neat in the workspace or whatever...but not at home. Or at least not for me.

Example:
I played a game. Online. suddenly, my ping started to get really shitty, followed by fps drops. Know what? W10 decided to download updates in the background and to install them. This diminished the available bandwidth for my game drastically it seems, and the updates also seemed to have a higher priority for the CPU than my game.
But wait, the best is still to come: The PC restarted while my game was still running.

My best guess is that it shouldn't restart while another program runs, maybe this was a bug. But that it downloaded the updates without my consent, throttling my connection...that's unforgiveable 😉

I always have the updates set to "search for updates, but ask before downloading and installing them". I install them regularly, but at least I can do it whenever I want. Not whenever W7/8.1 wants.

A rant!

Dear oh dear. What a collection of guff, there are plenty of people who are pissed off about this. Yearning for the good old days when men where men and OS's booted to a command shell. :)

The truth is we expect more form our technology and trying to deliver on that expectation is difficult, we only need to look at the disaster that was Windows 8's user interface. It was a demonstration that not only could Microsoft collect usage data about how we use its Operating System, but thanks to the fact that they stripped the usage context out of that data they completely missed the point.

Windows 8 is a non-existent thing these days replaced, by Windows 8.1 which includes a number of improvements but not enough. Windows 10 includes more though I'm sick of seeing Xbox branding all over the OS, my $15K PC is not a f*cking fischer price toy that I need a controller for, sorry Xbox or should I say (according M$ marketing) 'The One' but you're clearly 'The Aren't.' With respect to Win10 My PC is a tool, I can use it for entertainment purposes or I can render crap on it for work. I don't need a store built into every application I use, as if each new window is a shopportunity. And I view this as reasonable criticism. My PC is not an extension of my wallet and I don't exist to feed it, Microsoft, or their partners money and I'm certainly not going to spend anything on an app labelled 'Xbox Music' piss off MS I didn't buy a bloody XBone. Sorry to bust that bubble M$.

Having said that the real benefit in upgrading OS from 7 to 8.1 is definitely not from the user interface but from under the hood. The reality is that Windows 8 uses less RAM than 7, has a smaller footprint and incorporates some significant performance improvements alongside support for new devices. Windows 10 goes a bit further. You don't have to like it, and if you don't then fine stick with Windows 7, enjoy it, take the install disc out to a romantic candlelit dinner. I will take W10 with its under the hood performance improvements and DX 12 which will introduce significant performance increases for gamers and potentially offer a faster render pipeline for other productivity software, this is all good and to say otherwise is horsesh*t.

This is a tech site, we are all about the performance here, but instead of focusing on the actual metrics that actually count we are seeing people whinge constantly about Windows 8's interface. It was a valid complaint... *WAS* but it's gone, Windows 8 is gone. We have 8.1 and though its interface underwent a minor change it was still an improvement. W10 goes further but I'd rather see what people have to say about the part that counts, how does it perform? How do the new services interact with existing apps, how does it perform in heavy applications and demanding workloads, how good is the threading management, does it scale nicely with 8 Core CPU's. how well does it function in an actual multiprocessor environment? F*ck enough with the "WHAAAAAA Windows 8 Interface, WHAAAAA, 7 was better, WHAAAA!" Great but that doesn't discuss or address W10 as it stands presently and it'd be nice to see the more constructive W10 criticism that is not shrouded under a -15 vote count because someone said W8.1 wasn't that bad (like that is a glowing review).
