Right guys, as a last resort before I end up smashing the entire desktop out to the pavement below through the window im at a loss with this.

I have a install of Win10 Pro 64x, genuine windows version all activated etc, virus protection is the windows own stuff, I've been keeping all updates "update" until this one arrived.

its full description is - KB3135174 brings system to 10240.16683
A security issue has been identified in a Microsoft software product that could affect your system. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. For a complete listing of the issues that are included in this update, see the associated Microsoft Knowledge Base article. After you install this update, you may have to restart your system.

I cannot for the life of me get this to install, I have pretty decent pc knowledge and can conquer most issues, but this has defeated me.
Basically, i download it, it asks for a restart, so i follow it through, it goes to the blue screen starts to install update gets to around 7% and restarts, upon the new blue screen, it tells me that update failed undoing changes, and the desktop pops back up as normal, then tells me update failed click for more details, the details it gives me are literally nothing, "Failed to install (date)"

Clicking support takes me to this page - Windows Support

That tells me literally nothing, other than using another method via the windows update catalog, using every browser under the son i've attempted to download the update via the update catalog, and every time i click add, then basket I get a page encountered an error, i've got this error for around 3 months now, I also tried the same page out on my windows tablet, laptop, and even the xbox one, and the page no matter what you are selecting always floods back the encountered a problem result. So that seems to be out the game in regards to downloading this update.

Done some googling, finding it very difficult to see anything about this actual update and its failure to install, along with other-ways that appear safe enough to get this update and install it successfully.

Any help you guys could give would be much appreciated!

I've tried resetting the windows update clearing its folders, renaming its folders, creating new folders, stopping the entire update process and restarting it.
Stopped all security software and every process/program that is not required to run, and also safe mode.

Thanks in advance guys.

Looks like that update and a few others caused probs, inc crashing and black screens.

If youre not too worried about formatting, I would get the mediacreation tool, get the ISO and use Rufus to put it on a flash drive. Then boot from it. If WIn10 is activated now

And get the later version/ build 1511. Since Win 10 is up to 10586.104 now

It's looking more and more like a format with whatever build they are using now through the iso download was hoping to avoid that but might have to :(
