Question Windows 11 can never shut down on its own.

Hi, im a rather new user to windows 11 as i prefer to not upgrade what works. But Win 10 did not work with my new CPU so was forced to upgrade.

However i have an very annoying issue. My computer is on 24/7.

My monitor is getting abit old, and starts to bug out after being shut off for long. When i turn it on windows wont find display output, even if i take cable in and out etc.

But the solution to that problem is too restart windows and it magicly finds display signal again.. Everytime..

However, i have to force shut windows thru my reset button everytime. Cause windows 11 seems to be unable to shut down processes that is running. Like torrent, programs etc.

So its forever stuck in shutdown screen, and when i have no monitor display. I cannot manually kill tasks for windows to delete itself.

Kinda getting sick of doing hard resets on my windows and risk corrupting stuff.

Is there a program i can run that kills tasks when i ask windows to shut down? I dont understand how they are able to make windows worse in some aspects with new upgrades..

This is why i dont upgrade unless i have too.

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

In a lot of cases, its the startup programs that slow down shutdown. Seems illogical but they have to close things and save them for next start.

have you run sfc /scannow?

right click start
choose terminal (admin)
if it opens as command prompt, choose the drop down arrow in title area and choose powershell
copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11
