I have an older Threadripper CPU and I am unable to upgrade to Windows 11.
With the end of security updates to Windows 10 happening next October just wondering if that means I should anticipate having to buy a new CPU?
Or continue on Windows 10 without security updates?

Well, you can extend 10 for one more year if you want to:

The security updates are mostly for Defender so just use another AV. Its not like you need support from MS very often. Its not end of world, just patches.

If a really big problem occurred good chance MS would patch 10 if enough people still use it, they did the same for 7.

I'm a little confused here. So are you saying there is no major issues with continuing to use Windows 10 after MS ends its support as long as you have an Antivirus? If true than $30 for extending support from MS for at least the first year would still seem to be a bargain.

I would also warn the OP that at anytime MS can decide not to update unsupported systems with Windows 11, so you'll be in the same unsupported position as you are with MS ending support Windows 10, or am I missing something?

Depends on how fast "the industry" is going to drop support for 10, but one year should be fine, main thing would be if chrome or something else they use everyday would stop having updates.

While not impossible it would be a mayor media <Mod Edit> and I very much doubt MS would not let people update their system if it already runs windows 11.

This is the newest official disclaimer from MS on installing/upgrading a non supported PC to Windows 11.

"This PC doesn't meet the minimum system requirements for running Windows 11 - these requirements help ensure a more reliable and higher quality experience. Installing Windows 11 on this PC is not recommended and may result in compatibility issues. If you proceed with installing Windows 11, your PC will no longer be supported and won't be entitled to receive updates. Damages to your PC due to lack of compatibility aren't covered under the manufacturer warranty. By selecting Accept, you are acknowledging that you read and understand this statement."
