Ok...I just wanted to know whether my results sound ok, because they sound a bit dodgey to me - I thought Windows 2000 should beat Linux in Quake 3 tests!!!

CPU: Athlon Classic 700
Mem: 128MB CL2
M/B: Gigabyte 7IXE Bios Ver. F7
Vid: Creative Annihilator Pro (GeForce DDR @ 120/300)
Direct X Version 8.0 (NT)
Windows 2000 and Linux OS
AGP Settings: Linux = 2x, Windows2000 = Unknown?

3D Mark almost always crashes but my other games don't seem to...any ideas guys?

3D Mark 2000 (3600 or thereabouts) (I thought this was low!!)

Quake 3:

Windows2000 Linux
HQ (800x600) 91.1 93.1
HQ (1024x768) 69.7 73.3
Fastest (640x480)105.6 101.9

VSync was off for all tests...no AA enabled for OpenGL

Do these seem ok...I'm a little disappointed in the 3dMark result...

Now I loaded up windows 2000 with DirectXNT80....The scores are atrocious!!!!!! I can't believe that my system now get 8 frames per second or so on the helicopter high detail test. Is this an anomaly of the benchmark, or I should I expect this sort of performance across all direct3d apps with directx 8?

I think i can help...

What version Detonator drivers are you using?
you should be using 6.67, they are the best performing under win2k.
Any of the detonators below 6.47 have T&L disabled in win2k.
use DirectX8, Det. 6.67, and login under a 'power user' for less servies running, and try 3DMark again.

lemme know if it helps

I was using detonator 6.31

Since I use Windows mainly for games, I've decided to go back to Win98SE. I think you're right about the T&L though - my scores under DirectX 7 were inline with what I would have expected with T&L disabled. As for the scourge that is DirectX 8.0...I'll be looking very hard at games that require it before I install it!!!

Now, under Win98SE, with 6.31, DirectX 7.0a I get 4680 with
nothing overclocked, which is sweet if you ask me ;-)
