I have a TP Link WN951N pci wireless adapter. I was using it in an XP machine without any issues. I'm trying to use it in my Win 7 machine, but the computer doesn't detect it. Device manager doesn't list it, either. This is a new Intel DP965 LT main board. I have tried a pci video card, so I know the pci slots work.

More than likely your adapter is not compatible with Windows 7. Windows 7 is far more picky about the hardware it will support then previous versions of Windows. There is a list called an ACL (Access Control List) and if the adapter you are using is too old it will not function. Look to see if you can find Windows 7 drivers for that adapter, if not, its probably not compatible with Win 7.

Yes, I installed the drivers that came with it. They don't find it, either. When I boot up, the TP Link utility wants me to install the card, even though it is installed. The box says it is Win 7 compatible... I just installed a VIA Raid storage controller card. The system found it and installed the drivers, so I know for sure that the pci slots are ok.

I sent an email to tp link tech support. I finally heard back 2 days later. Their suggestion was to boot to safe mode, turn off anti virus and firewall, then go to a link on their site and download/install the driver from there. I have never had to install drivers in safe mode before? In the mean time, I got a netgear usb adapter and was connected to wifi in less than 5 minutes... problem solved. Thanks for trying to help a guy out.

I have Win 8.1 64-bit (*ugh*) and had to turn off all the start-up settings in my Zone alarm and Avira software then REBOOT. (Turning them off in Task Manager did not work). After the reboot I plugged the TP-WN822N back in and manually installed the Win8 TP driver (I didn't try 8.1 but that might work also). Then the device would enable and see all the local wifi networks around.

Unfortunately, once I re-enabled the security tools-- bye-bye access. So this driver does not appear compatible. I've read that Kaspersky has an option to turn off NDIS in the device settings. So that might be an alternative.

BTW, I've used the device on a Win7 machine just fine, so I know it's not the adapter. It's definitely the driver.
