Hi,

I have been having a lot of lag and crashes with my pc. Sometimes my games will lag for a moment and then continue. Sometimes they lag so badly I need to reboot the pc to get everything smooth again. I also get delays when typing, but it seems to happen once every hour or so. I also have had the occasional blue screen crash. Sometimes it appears in the event viewer as a stop error and other times nothing shows up. Your help would be much appreciated.

I checked event viewer and I have a few recurring errors and I would like to fix the issue if someone would kindly do so. Obviously I am not sure what is causing

Additional Info;

Swapped out entire RAM (16 gig) with different ram : same errors and issue.

Did a hard drive scan in windows with no errors.

Checked windows files and all seemed fine.

Used CrystalDiskInfo and all ssd reported "good".

I think issue started when I tried to install windows update files and I got my first blue screen - but could be a co-incidence.

things like this is why I stopped using 3ed party security stuff like advast [running full time ] maybe once every year or 6 months run there quick checker tool to see if the mse has missed anything along the way then uninstall/remove it .. so far has not ?? but that's just me

MSE isn't even on the list for toms guide or PC mag for 2015, Lat time I looked MSE was rated at the bottom even below windows defender.

when trouble shooting issues it is often helpful to erase the events in event viewer so you are working on current issues. here is a link to help you with doing so.: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/320451-event-viewer-clear-all-events.html

Okay I don't really want to argue on what is the best antivirus. I just want my games to run smoothly and not have lots of lag and crashes. I rarely go surfing or downloading with this pc, so I doubt I will catch any viruses - but I guess never say never.

I have run the scannow and it said there were no issues.

I did a scan disk with no issues.

I have uninstalled avast and also installed all the latest windows updates.

Oh and I won't clear my event viewer (sorry but I think that is bad advice) because I am trying to troubleshoot the current issue and these errors are the only clues I have as to what is going on. I mean no disrespect, I just don't think it's a good idea.

What should I do now?

I to have used it, so please don't think I am not speaking from experience. Obviously you have not been around on Tom's long enough to realize that there are not kickbacks in that way here. Tom's is here to provide honest hard data on whether products work or not and when mistakes are made there is a big tadoo about the retraction so that everyone sees it.

To each there own is correct but when there is better out I will give the info to the OP can make an informed decision on what way to go.

If you clear the event viewer and the issue reapears then you know there is an issue there. There are times you get programs that do not open with in the timeout period. This will throw errors and once you have a bunch of stuff cluttering up the event viewer it can become harder to see the forest through the trees.

while it is ultimately your choice to do or not I have found it helpful to do so when trouble shooting.

Have you run Hardware stress tests? My thoughts are you have a conflicting program but it is worth knowing if the hardware is stable. After Uninstalling your antivirus programs have you run any games to see if the issue is still there?

installed all the latest windows updates.

well I never do that unless there updates that are truly needed and not found as botched or my not be related to the os your using

example of ones to decline

well run things around and see how it goes ??

I just think advest is throwing a false positive and corrupting something test things with the internet connection off frist to see that maybe a autoupdater was not at blame and advest was blocking it or not letting it run

heres a old thread on it but not replyed to on what fixed [I assume disabling advest ?]]

Okay I understand about your point of clearing the event viewer to make it easier to read, but I can easily sort by date so that won't be a problem.

I only install updates that are tagged as essential, and I probably won't worry about conspiracy theories.

Thanks for the info thus far, but to be fair I haven't really gotten anywhere.

All the tests I have done have come up fine. I haven't tested any games yet because I am just running a virus scan with eset online scanner, microsoft essentials (trying this scanner for the time being) and then with malwarebytes - to be on the safe side.

Then I will test a game and/or check the logs. Blue screens happen once every other day - so I will have to see if it is the fault of the virus scanner.

Is there anything else I can test?

The one troubling code you have teh the 124 code. THis is often a hardware issue, but could be software causing the hardware to act funky. here is a link to go over and may help in your troubleshooting process: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-update/bugcheck-code-124/98c998d2-447a-40ce-ae1f-8211e355f14d .

PRime95 and intel burn test for CPU testing
Memtest86+ for memory
OCCT GPU test with error checking enabled for GPU stressing
HDDscan 3.3 for reading smart sensor data.

That seems drastic! Are the tests easy to perform for a novice like me?

Cheers,

yes the tests are all easy to use. JUst download a temp monitoring program to watcjh temps so that they do not go to high. CPUID's HWmonitor is good and so is Open Hardware monitor.

If you give a list of your hardware we can tell you what the max temps should not exceed for each piece.

Memtest86+ for memory is handy to use this one from memtest.org is the one I like .. I cant recall if fixed but this memtest's hammer test can throw false positives and some folks report issues with it ????
http://www.memtest86.com/

like bgunner says when doing a cpu stress test you need to keep your eyes on things .. some can just run things up until they fail and then it maybe too late

Okay I did a few things.

I ran eset online scanner + malwarebytes and NO viruses.

Did a scan of windows files = no issues.

Did a ssd scan and no issues.

I used prime95 to test my CPU's and none of the cores failed the test and temperatures were around 65 degrees. My system is water cooled and the CPU is a i7 2600k overclocked at 4.6 ghz.

I will test my RAM next, however I did swap out the ram last week and still got the same issues. I had backup ram which I used - which was brand-new - so I know it works 100%. The company I bought my pc parts from from sent me the wrong RAM, as well as some other parts in an incorrect purchase order, and let me keep the wrong ram as compensation due to lengthy delays).

Prime 95 needs to run for a minimum of 2 hours best if let run for 5 before saying it is stable. Intel burn test also needs to be run also. The reason being is that sometimes one will miss something that the other will catch. Intel Burn Test needs to run for 20 runs on maximum stress.

I doubt you will see errors with the ram but it is best to be safe than sorry in this case. Be sure you run this program as a boot device. It has its own UI similar to linux.

Junky I do not what got your dander up but if you persist on the attitude you will be reported. Stop, just stop. You have been argumentative this hole post and it is uncalled for.

next deleting the second halve of the post that explains why I said what it did so you can make a snide comment is also unneeded. STOP arguing with me. I did not say not to use windows diagnostic just its limitations and why Memtest86+ is much better.
