I have just installed Windows 7 and so far so good.

But I have no email. I cannot find any icon/program for it.

Any idea?.

Regards. Thanks.

Solution
Solution:

Open the start menu and type 'essentials', click on the first item that comes up -> "go online to get windows live essentials"

From there you can download and install the windows mail program along with some of the other programs that microsoft left out of windows 7 (such as movie maker, messenger, and a photo editor).

Hope that helps!

No you dont lose MS Office (or any other programme for that matter). I lost absolutely nothing. All documents, settings , programmes etc remained intact and all printers, external drives, webcam etc. wrk fine. Just a new operating system.

Would suggest running the Windows 7 upgrade Advisor (google it) and it will will warn you of any potential problems such as older programmes or hardware which may be affected.

It does not matter what OS you use Microsoft\Apple’s OSX if you use apple your stuck with there operating system’s software pack and what ever ells that they have bundled with OSX and the same goes with Microsoft Windows I have been using MS Windows since 95 was released along with Windows mail and outlook over the years on all my computers and I cant believe they left out Windows Mail \ Outlook on windows 7. So what I did is take my Old Office XP and just installed Outlook 2002 LOL and updated it to service pack 3 and now I don’t have a problem with the Windows Mail Thing anymore. One other question I’ve never used Windows Live Mail & Is it possible to setup my ISP’s POP & SMTP server’s on it or do you have to use your Windows Live Account only. Thanks 4 your time people.

yeah they want us to test the betas for free and no they're not forcing you to use anything, they left it out for a reason along with the other programs...and that reason is "drum roll" to let us the "end users" use any application we prefer rather then them making us use it by including it, and c'mon really if it were included would you be using it anyway? and as for apple, the only thing they have going for them is the trip free cord. big f*** in WOW on that. and think about it...whens the last time apple made a desktop, desktops by far beat laptops which become obsolete in 3 months after you buy em. oh and Apples tech support is also in inda. Outsourcing is common trend. and the iphone what a joke...touchscreen phones=pocket dialing and delayed actions when apps are launched or are txt'n, what a way to rip off the consumer of $300

Should have run the upgrade check and you would have been told WIndows mail is NOT INCLUDED in Windows 7.
For this reason although I bought it I have not installed it.
I need Windows mail and its neat trick to compose email into Adobe format.
Until I sort this witha free aftemarket email no deal.
I dont egree to BUY OUTLOOOK

Thats a clear rip off.

The end goal is to have the meat of most software be web based. It allows the software developers to control many facets of the features available and reduces lost revenues do to theft. Anyone old enough will recall how prevelent cable theft was in the past. Whereas now the costs are considered basic and the security is better. I think in the end it will leave the consumers with proverbial workstations sitting on our desks but overall we'll come out better for it in the long run.

Why couldn't they just put an e-mail server in with the system. I love using Outlook Express or Windows mail for Vista. Was it that hard to put those in the system instead of having people download this and download that. Something else i have to register for!!...and i will get junk mail from them to....

dab 18351) Read my message again the point is your stuck with the bundled software that comes with any operating system whether it has an Email program or not if the manufacturer decide to take out a program then the end user example all of us then have to deal with it or find an alternative for the missing program from the bundle software that came with the OS Like WINDOWS MAIL. & if you’re wondering I like the Imac OSX and I don't have anything negative to say about it.

& yes I know that OSX has an Email program and highlight the words in my message where I typed & explained that it doesn’t.
Don’t comment on an example of bundled software in operating systems.

Look its very simple - Every version of Windows since the Internet was part of the OS has come with an Internet browser - the Internet browser included an email client - A lot of users now use Firefox in preference to IE and the biggest majority still use Outlook Express (part of the package - no searching and downloading/installing - its simple to set up and if you had a problem just copy inbox.dbx etc. from your backup) - As for Outlook, well you have to pay for it and copy a pst file and what have you got - lost emails.

Vista was c**p, 7 is an improvement but still not good enough for me to recommend. My new PC's will still ship with XP for the time being, lets hope Ms has a change of heart and includes an Free simple, safe email client with SP1.

I just downloaded and installed windows 7, I must say I was worried of a usual upgrade for windows OS, usually, it never works and you must re format full insatll. Amazing!, it actually upgraded witout a hitch, all my software oics and music is all there!.
I switched to Mozilla Thunderbird long ago, so just go download that. Microsoft mail sucks anyway.

I also purchased a mac and guess what, the mail softare that came with it, did not work for me, It cant log into my servers to send mail, even after spending 2 hours with level 3 tech. I downloaded thunderbird for that one as well, No problems!

One thing that burns ma ass about macs is it does not have the Desktop Icon, you need to minimze all the windows.

Guess what, I cant find it here on the new windows 7 either, WHERE THE HELL IS IT!, i want it back ;-)

How is it a RIP OFF???? Windows Mail is a FREE DOWNLOAD!!!!

You can install Vista "Windows Mail" in Windows 7. Did it last night, However I still need to configure it (Have to find My password and didn't have time last night as I had to go bowling:. Any way here is the link on how to do it.

What I did was
(1) copied windows Vista Mail folder on to a thumb drive. Added: don't have vista windows mail, then you can download it (see link)
(2) Renamed Win 7 Windows Mail folder to "Windows mailBU"
(3) Coped vista's windows mail into Win 7, and ran the exe. It then started the "Setup".

It is not so much installing a new email client, that is easy part, what peeved me off is not warning it was going to kill your outlook and make your saved emails unaccessible, there are a few emails that I left in outlook to print when time came to use the emails (ticket confirmations in december) but now they are gone, unless someone can inform me that they are still there and I can get them back.

my upgrade was on a acer thats came with a free upgrade to 7 after it was released. wether OEM upgrade discs are differant because there was no back up reminders no email deltion notices just disc in press upgrade and away it went , 1 hour 37 minutes later after several reboots it vinished install.

Its very simple to use "Windows Mail" in Win7.
All what you need is the original Windows Mail Files from the "Vista OS".
When you have this files you can overwrite the Win7-Files in the programm directory in Win7.
But before you do that, you have to chance the "TrustedInstaller-Account" to the actual user. Thats all

Uuups, sorry too late :-(

So long Outlook Express

Bad news awaits all of you--including myself--with Windows 7 and who want
Outlook Express for storing our email msgs. on our private computers and our
ISP's website, rather than at some free public central location.

Single Left the start button.
Left click the option Help and Support.
The 'Windows Help and Support' window appears.
At the top of this window is a small rectangular search window.
In the search window type "Outlook Express".
Next, left click the search button which is located in the right corner
of the search window.
A new window appears with a list entitled "6 Results for Outlook Express".
Click on the first topic.

If you want Outlook Express you will need either your credit card or your check book,
compliments of Bill Gates and associates.

2) Will Post mark accept the importation of my email
files from Outlook Express running on XP?

First of all, there is no charge for upgrading to Win 7 from Vista.
Just be sure to follow the instructions found on
your pc's web site.

And yes, Windows Live Mail is web-based.
According to MS, live mail does not store
emails on our computers.

Are you certain that Mozilla Thunderbird is compatible and runs smoothly with Windows 7?
If yes, will Mozilla Thunderbird read my stored outlook email files?

Thank you.

You had no clue, but you replied anyway?

What was it that you were trying to contribute to the discussion?

Back on topic, this is very like MS ducking out of the fax industry in the 90s to throw business to Symantec. Not that it was by any pre-arrangement, or collusion, or anything.

Meanwhile, you're being shifted to a web-based product to make it cheaper to use you as a gamma-tester.

Don't like it? My recommendation is to go find a hard-working freeware or shareware provider, give them your support, and reduce your dependence on the MS empire. One of those may turn out to be like that obscure fledgling search engine with the calming, nearly-all-white screen.

Just a thought,
dp

One does not get an email client 'built in' Win 7 as was with previous Windows versions which is a pity, but don't go with the automatic download of Windows Live Mail; it's a heap of crap, unlike Windows Mail which is/was the Vista client and a beauty!
