Windows 7 Product key

hello.

I used to own windows 8. But I had a problem and took it to a friend of mine that tried to fix it... we end up wiping the computer clean and putting a windows 7 on it. I think its only a trial becuase we didn't use a product key on it.

so I decided to buy windows 10... downloaded it and now its asking me for the product key for windows 7 already on my computer becuase it isn't activated... I have a windows 10 key but it doesn't work on it.

Its trying to do an upgrade install and an upgrade requires a previously licensed OS which you don't have. If you bought the full version of 10 backup your data and do a clean install then ot shouldn't need a win 7 key just the win 10 key.

The problem with that is. I don't own a hardcopy. I just downloaded it from the net.

So where did you buy it from? You should be able to download the file again and create a bootable drive to install it from. As long as you have a valid key (you did buy it from Microsoft, didn't you, not some fly-by-night cheapo company?) you have no problem.

I did buy it from Microsoft. on the setup window. it's giving me two options. ISO file or a USB. i tried USB but it wont find it for some reason. Is ISO fine?

Is ISO fine?

Yes. You can burn that to a DVD or create a bootable USB drive from it.
