Will this even benefit us? or does it just provide all the updates for Windows 7 that we already have in a package called SP1?

I guess if the SP is downloadable like Windows XP's, it would make it easier to instantly update my win 7 machines that haven't been on for a long time.

I've been messing with the various builds of SP1 for awhile now at work.

For an average home-user, it doesn't seem like it'll do much (from what I can tell) and chances are you already have the vast majority of the updates it contains.

For Server 2008 R2... it makes my inner-IT happy.

Cool, I guess... I'm more excited about new things like Portal 2 to care about a bunch of normal updates compiled into one package though.

Boring wake me up when Windows 8 is ready. Service packs do nothing new for the home user it just makes it easier to put all the updates together for one big update if it is even needed.

For those who have Windows 7 installed and have kept it up to date, this will do little or nothing. For those who frequently install or reinstall Windows 7 this will be a time saver.

If I use the Kaspersky anti-virus & anti-spyware software, they recomend that I do not download any service packs at all...If I use PC Tools anti-spyware software, they recomend as far as what I can remember that you download all service pack updates...On the internet I do go through my experimentation phase & what I mean by that is that I let my browser down to let cookies in (on selected pc only for it's life span)& at other times I keep my browser up (on another selected pc that I will keep out cookies permanently)...I have noticed though that if you keep out cookies that it is more likely that your pc will last longer depending on the sites that you visit e.g.:porn,eBay & the associated popup sites will do some damage...The eBay site I have noticed at one time do something to my pc (this amd pc that I am using now,duo core only...After having it on the internet for 1 to 2 days,I recalled that when I visited eBay almost straight after this pc lost quite a lot of it's 3.2 GHz forcefullness...(Gigabyte MA74GM-S2 mainboard with a X2 260 amd athlon II x2 processor @ 3.2 GHz dual core with 2.0 mb cache & 1x1GB stick of Kingston 800MHz of ram...))...For intel users those amd motherboard specs are similar to an intel G31 chipset...This pc has got an OEM xp pro sp3 opoerating system disc on it & when it gets too bad I will just reformat this HDD & reinstall the operating system...I have got a retail boxed windows 7 pro on a pc,but it is not used much & with no updates being downloaded at all onto it...

Computer hardware loves a fresh re-install of Windows, and what a better time, than coupled with the SP1 download. Thanks Microsoft. My laptop will be revived with an SSD + Win 7 SP1.

For the fact the RemoteFX is part of this service pack. Allowing everyone to now stream movies and games over remote desktop using windows 7. This is a big benefit for those who enjoy slacking off at work :)

[citation][nom]noblerabbit[/nom]Oh and by the way, IE9 ***** rocks! Speed demon. IE8 was slow as molasses.[/citation]

IE8 always worked fine for me. I'm impressed with the new Firefox as well. I still mostly use IE8.
