[citation][nom]rooket[/nom]IE8 always worked fine for me. I'm impressed with the new Firefox as well. I still mostly use IE8.[/citation]
Well, I guess I can take a peek at IE9 to see what MS has been up to, but I've become a pretty faithful Chrome user (previously a Firefox fan).

[citation][nom]zak_mckraken[/nom]@Wish I Was Wealthy : Cool story bro. Not quite sure where you want to go with this though.[/citation]
Yeah, kind of how I felt reading it too. Also, Wealthy should check his keyboard's "." key, it seems to be reporting three periods per actuation.

lets go start menu. classic start menu.
second the bar where the open programs are. can you right click them, and get 4 options on what to do? cascade, tile vertically, tile horizontally, minimize group?

those are 4 functions i use all the time, that i cant use win 7 without. iv been forced to use it on and off for the passed year, and i hate everything about the oses feel, but the start menu makes me swear at the os more than anything else.

Let's see. If I right-click on the task bar I get cascade windows, show windows stacked (sounds like tile vertically to me), show windows side by side (tile horizontally), show the desktop (minimize group). I don't think anything is missing. Maybe, it acts differently but it's been awhile since I've used XP and don't remember.

Windows 7 SP1 RTM has been out now since Jan 15th. I'm guessing the only diff is that it's the "offical release" while the RTM one that was leaked out last month wasn't.

[citation][nom]Wish I Was Wealthy[/nom]If I use the Kaspersky anti-virus & anti-spyware software, they recomend that I do not download any service packs at all...If I use PC Tools anti-spyware software, they recomend as far as what I can remember that you download all service pack updates...On the internet I do go through my experimentation phase & what I mean by that is that I let my browser down to let cookies in (on selected pc only for it's life span)& at other times I keep my browser up (on another selected pc that I will keep out cookies permanently)...I have noticed though that if you keep out cookies that it is more likely that your pc will last longer depending on the sites that you visit e.g.😛orn,eBay & the associated popup sites will do some damage...The eBay site I have noticed at one time do something to my pc (this amd pc that I am using now,duo core only...After having it on the internet for 1 to 2 days,I recalled that when I visited eBay almost straight after this pc lost quite a lot of it's 3.2 GHz forcefullness...(Gigabyte MA74GM-S2 mainboard with a X2 260 amd athlon II x2 processor @ 3.2 GHz dual core with 2.0 mb cache & 1x1GB stick of Kingston 800MHz of ram...))...For intel users those amd motherboard specs are similar to an intel G31 chipset...This pc has got an OEM xp pro sp3 opoerating system disc on it & when it gets too bad I will just reformat this HDD & reinstall the operating system...I have got a retail boxed windows 7 pro on a pc,but it is not used much & with no updates being downloaded at all onto it...[/citation]
What? None of that made any sense.

i despise the way it acts.

[citation][nom]alidan[/nom]lets go start menu. classic start menu[/citation]
common dude classic start menu, you have to come out of the dark ages thats over 15 years old now, the win 7 start menu is way better you just have to accept it and make the change. once you get used to it you will wonder how you ever used the classic start menu

Start Menu? What the hell is that? All I see is "C:\" on my computer when I turn it on.

amen bro...
when the get it into production I can go back to smokin' my dro and my tunes...
my 'mental' needs a break.

[citation][nom]SAAIELLO[/nom]Boring wake me up when Windows 8 is ready. Service packs do nothing new for the home user it just makes it easier to put all the updates together for one big update if it is even needed.[/citation]

Not quite true. SP2 really changed XP and made it a decent OS (before that it was pretty crappy). SP3 for XP also improved performance a lot too and as well added a few features such as installing updates when you shut the PC down.

SP1 and SP2 improved Vistas performance quite a bit for the home user.

Not saying SP1 will change much for 7 since its already a great OS, but you can't say it wont. One guy at my work installed it and said it did help his load times quite a bit.

xp, even in its earliest form, was the best os on the market at the time, aside from 2000.

xp was the os to have, and i believe still is, if you dont have an ssd or a need for trim. is their anything else.

i cant customize the win 7 pc that i have to use, so i cant say if there is an amount of customization that would make me like it. but dammit if you could get it to function like xp. or at least classic start menu, because i #$%#ING HATE what start menu became. i want to go start, programs, see folders, scroll though them, and select what i want, i don't want to have to always press a separate button to see it all.

i mean fire fox, people have a old theme, and i can install extensions to bring back fire fox 1.5 look and feel, with all the benefits of 3.whatever its at now.

why cant they do that for an os?

For those of you complaining about not being able to "configure" 7 - you need to go back to classes, because 7 is even MORE configure-able than XP.

(There might even be a whole FORUM on Windows 7 stuff here on Tom's...if you'd look...)
