Okay, so I stated having this problem over 2 months ago, but it has pretty much reached its peak today. Today, i had enough time to watch 2 videos online in the time it took for my computer to turn on and login to my account. Once i am in windows, all of my applications work fine, infact, if fallows the proper startup path and boots normally, it just takes forever... So i have tried a few things, here are the ones i can remember doing:

System disk repair
CCleaner
MSConfig sys clean boot (There are only necessary programs running vital to the computers ability to perform)

I also checked event viewer inside and out and there are only about 5-6 errors, most of which happens outside of the boot.

If needed, here are some detailed specs of my computer:

Base model: Dell xps 8700

HDD1: 1tb (OS)
HDD2: 80G(Programs)
CPU: Intel core i5 4440 4th gen
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 270X

If any other info is needed, just ask :)

I will appreciate any help i can get, thanks!

A bad hard drive can cause this. Try unhooking HHD 2 and see if you get the same problem. By the way, that is an odd combination, your OS on a 1TB drive, and programs on an 80gig? That has got to be a very old drive, and could be the cause of your problem. Usually you put the OS on the smaller drive, and your programs on the larger drive, but then again, people who do this usually run an SSD for the smaller drive. Not quite sure what your thinking here.

LOL...kinda a funny story...So when i bought the computer, it came with windows 8 on the one 1tb drive about 1 year ago, as soon as i got it, I downgraded it to windows 7 (Witch i now regret). 4 months later, a local business got all new computers and gave me all their old ones. They all happens to have drives in them, and i thought that it would be cool to use it. Now that windows 10 is coming out i have decided to fix my past mistakes, which is why i created this topic here., where i am attempting to replace the 80gig with an ssd and put windows 10 on it, after i transfer all the files back to the 1tb drive.

Sorry for the long explanation, I will go unplug the drive and get back to you with another reply in a few minuetes! Thanks!

Alright, turned my maching back on and nothing changed, so we know its not that. But now that we are so close to the release of windows 10, i am thinking that i will transfer all the data on that drive to my 1tb one and just live with that until i can get an SSD and put windows 10 on it.

My anti virus soft where detected this as a virus, and i don't have such a great feeling about it either, but after I remove my second HDD and restart, i will defrag using window's built in derangement. Thanks!

Just because my antivirus soft where says it is a virus, doesn't mean i think it is, but the website is screwy and looks very suspicious to me. Can you think of an alternate defragment software?

Yeah, nothing really that recent, the problem just started to happen, i am sure there was something i did but i can't remember. I got the PC last christmas and downgraded the same day.

I downloaded/installed Defraggler, and fallowed its instructions, according to it, the defrag will be going on for the next 24 hours, should it really take that long to defrag?

Go to start & type in msconfig click on the start up tab & un tick the useless softwares that automatically run at start up ( running in the background ) consuming your pc's ram thus making the pc slower

NOPE, this is too long, unless defragmentation % is huge, what "ANALYZE" report said, how defragmented drive is?
Check your BIOS, how HDDs setup, performance or quiet, HDD is in troubles, or it's settings

Edit. Win7 usually manages defragmentation automatically, at least with my PC 5 HDDs.

It should not take that long regardless of how fragmented it is. Although I have seen a few take a couple hours.
Go to device manager and check to make sure DMA mode is enabled on your hard drive.
Right click computer, properties.
On the left ,click device manager.
Click the plus sign next to IDE/ATA/SATA/ ATAPI controllers.
Find the channel your hard drive is on.
Double click, in the window click the Advanced Settings tab.
It should list your hard drive and the current mode.
At the bottom make sure "Enable DMA" has a check mark in the box.
restart if you have to make any changes to enable DMA mode.

when it started, it said that 165GB (34%) were fragmented, 668GB (72%) of the drive has data on it.

Never saw that high % on my PCs, maybe 15% once, anyway, report back when done.
Do you have any S.M.A.R.T. utility installed?

Sorry, I don't think i know what a "Smart" utility is, I may have one that I just don't know about? How would i know and how could I get one?

BTW, defrag at 40% done now

Okay, this is extremely unusual and scares me a metric poop ton, so drfragler says that the disk health is good, and crystaldiskinfo is still downloading/installing, so I will get to that at the end of this reply, but after running the defrag overnight, i checked back at defragler to re-analyzable because it seems to have shut down after defraging last night. This time it says that 300GB (42%) are fragmented, more than when i started yesterday..so...erm..yeah...

Crystal Disk info is still downloading so i may have to wait of that, but i also have to say, the free space on the drive has been cut in half, for than 75% of the drive has been used!! What the heck is going on!! So i am really super worried at this point, it seams to me like a clean system wipe may have to be put in place, as i can't think of much else to do. So this leads me to good timming. So the next version of windows comes out around this month, and i am trying to get my free windows 10 upgrade onto a new ssd to buy, so my best though would be that i need to not use the data on this drive/this drive in its current state to host an OS. If anyone has any questions or a souloution PLEASE say it, it seems like there is more to this than what is seen.

Sorry for the long answer and things, but if you don't think you can help me here anymore, please, can you try to help me here:

It also says that the HDD is "Good" in health stats

P.S. Windows defragmenter says that the drive is not fragmented.

There is an App you installed that is looking for a resource during boot that is no longer there and it happens to have a long timeout (wait before it gives up). YOUR HD WOULD STOP BLINKING OR BLINKING SPARINGLY. Otherwise you have other issues.

Boot with log and if you feel like going through the "dump." I dunno if there is a log analyzer tool out there.

Me, I simply reload my last known-to-be-good OS Image.

Is that your guess, or do you have any supporting evidence?

I would not be surprised if that is true, but i thought that CCleaner did that for you.

Alright, i checked my windows event viewer and there are very few errors (More detailed info in the opening question)

In repose to kisianik, i will restart with last know good config that worked and respond to his reply with the results

THanks all of you for being so helpful!
