http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/652-63-window-monitor-1680x1050-1920x1080-resolution-here - this issues describes my problem but his links are dead and I thought I had sorted this and resolved the issue on Toms Hardware but it turns out I have not.
Since I upgraded to win 7 from xp I have had driver issues and cannot run my native full res. on my monitor.
Apparently there is an issue with win 7 refusing to acknowledge many LED monitors.
I am using win 7 ultimate on a dell laptop via vga to a samsung monitor, nvidia geforce go 7200 (ancient card).
There are countless people on many forums with this issue but the resolutions all vary and non outright fixed the issue.
I installed the latest nvidia latest driver and I lost various options I previously had such as CRT move and I was defaulted to max res. of 1600x 1200 which looks pretty bad on my monitor.
Furthermore most of the resolutions are not even centred and there is now no option to move anything.
But after fiddling around with the driver and installing powerstrip I have managed the 1080 res but it is now too big!!! so I loose a mm on every side which means I cannot see the date or use the menu box functions as they are off screen!!!
Also it occasionally resets to loosing the native res again.
As this seems a common problem does anyone have a solution?
I would be happy if I could just make 1920 x 1080 fit the screen.
