For some reason Windows 7 refuses to install on my acer aspire 7741. I have loaded windows 7 onto a USB flash drive and when I try to boot it gets stuck on starting windows. Here are the things I have done to try to fix this.

1. I installed windows 7 on another computer and transferred the hard drive. It still gets stuck on starting windows on the acer aspire, but on the other computer works just fine.

2. Tried a different hard drive. This of course did not work.

3. Tried booting in both AHCI and IDE mode. Still nothing will work.

And just out of curiosity I loaded Ubuntu 14 onto a USB flash drive and installed it on the computer and it loads fast with no problem at all.

I just cannot wrap my mind around what is happening. Is there anyone out there who can help me?

1. Make bootable usb with rufus
2. Use a usb 2.0 and plug into usb 2.0 port (win7 installation doesn't fully support 3.0 to 3.0 port or 3.0 to 2.0 port)
3. ...
4. profit?

Right. That will not work. Windows really needs to be installed when the drive is in the system where it will live.

When booting from the flash drive to install, how long are you waiting?

I am waiting about 2-3 hours and nothing is happening. It just its there with the glowing windows symbol sating starting windows. I am using a USB 2.0 drive in a USB 2.0 slot (this computer does not have USB 3.0)
