[citation][nom]demonhorde665[/nom]hmm seems liekmy future willa vhe 3 pcs , now ... 1 new win7 pc , for latest games and 3d apps , a xp machine for slightly older games that crap out on 64 bit win 7, and a even older pc for even older games that crap out on xp.yeck i was already contemplating building a "new" oldtech machine using single core athy's and low end parts ( and digging up my old gf 4) i suppose now i may find my self either building 2 such computers or in teh least getign this "Old" comp a 1t byte hard drive so i can dual boot and still avhe all the room my older games would need , doing this i could give it dual boot to xp or win 98 , just seems to be harder being a retro gamer , and goign to every new OS release, oh adn tont tell em aobut compatibilities modes LOL try rungin Resident evil 2 or mechwarrior 3 on compatiblity mode in xp at best teh experience is buggy to say the least , hionce why i'm looking to build a low cost "old" machine for running win 98.[/citation]

My god man, I read that entire thing (took a while) and still have no idea what the hell you're rambling on about.

[citation][nom]suckmyballsMS[/nom]Bull! My 1GB RAM, 7900GT, amd 64 2000+ ran Windows 7 without a hitch, very responsive and fast - no problem running multiple programs. I do admit, however, that 7900GT was not sufficient to run full Aero stuff, but that's a graphic card and definitelly not RAM and processor. And for the sake of it, fresh install took 6.2GB rather than 8 or 10GB that are "minimal" requirement for Win7.[/citation]

A 2000+? An Athlon 2000+ would be a socket 462 Athlon XP, and they never had PCIe boards for 462, so i assume you mean a 2.0GHz Athlon 64 (a 3200+). Even then, "very responsive and fast" is the last thing that comes to mind with an old school single core athlon 64 3200+ and windows 7.

[citation][nom]cliffro[/nom]Also lets not forget, Games usually do not work in a VM really either.[/citation]

Mechwarrior 2 does, maybe that's one of the exceptions though...

ceteras, thats rude; its a hobby for many people as such with car restoration on the weekends... and people dont just use their systems for gaming, the fact that a PC is a "gamer" PC essentially makes all kinds of programs run quickly and responsively. (ie... I use Adobe MC CS4 and because i have a fast gfx card, the new gfx based features are not a hangup for my computer.) But that wasn't my point to begin with. I just think that XPM is aimed at the pros that already have, say IBM thinkpads, that are slightly underpowered, but that can fit 2GB in their system and run XPM for collaboration with an ancient program.

You mean Windows 7 won't run on my Packard Bell computer with a blazing 100 mhz pentium processor, 8 mb of ram, and a state of the art 1 gb hard drive?

Microsoft must be evil.

silversurfernhs , thank you for the reply.
I get your point, and my comment was off topic; my apologies.

To be on topic, I'd also say that we are lucky with cheap memory prices, and also M$ seems to do a good job with Windows7.

Wow, MS making you upgrade so that you can do more on your pc. What a crime!! (sarcasm). Like people have said, 2 gigs of DDR2 are cheap. Plus, almost every notebook (f*&^ netbook) has 2 gigs already, if not more. If any of you are whining about this and play PC games you should probably move to console gaming.

So let me get this straight - you need 2 GB of memory to run Windows XP within Windows 7, but Windows XP's maximum memory limit is 3 GB? Weird.

soooo if even they think you`ll still be using XP isn`t that kind of admitting XP is still better?? So why bother running XP inside w7 if I can just run XP fine by itself?? Guess I`ll be waiting for Windows 8 to come out and maybe then I`ll ditch XP
