Hi. I recently built a brand new gaming rig with Windows 8.1 OEM. I had no problems for a week and today my computer failed to boot. After I had my MSI motherboard screen, it went into "Automatic Repair" and failed to repair the issues that it supposedly found. As I tried to use the refresh feature, it instantly said there was "a problem" and it could not refresh. Alright, so, I have no choice but to reset. I go to do so, I insert my installation disk, and it says its invalid. I'm stuck with a computer that can't fix itself and won't let me fix it. Since it's OEM, I cannot reach out to Microsoft for support. What can I do? Do I have to buy another copy of Windows and a new harddrive?

Thank you

Assuming it's just a Windows error, a new HDD wouldn't be necessary. On the other hand, a faulty hard drive could be the reason for the troubles in the first place.

Let me suggest a diagnostic tool:

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/

Runs on all drives, not only Seagate branded; burn to disk and boot from it.

Can you be more specific about the "not valid" error? Is it possible for you to post the exact message or a screenshot?

Thank you for the diagnostic tool! I will try it later today. The thing about it being just a Windows error- I opened the command prompt from the repair screen and typed in "DIR C:\", and there was nothing there. As far as the invalid message, here's what pops up: http://imgur.com/jhZUJVz

Apologies for not having it embedded in this post. It was not seeming to work.
