Hi, I am currently considering buying Windows 8 OEM but i was wondering if I can upgrade to 8.1 later coz from what i read, 8.1 no longer allow personal usage.? Thank you

I know a lot of ppl already asked the question but they asked before 8.1 come out and answer are mostly "I think" so i just want to be sure. Also, after install 8.1, do i get a ISO file so i can burn and make a clean install another time?

I have an OEM version on my desktop and just updated without issues last night.

I suppose you could make an image of right after you installed 8.1 if you wanted to? Although I thought i heard that they are going to start selling 8.1 now instead of 8

Where did you get your 8.1 from ??

I'm running Windows 8.0 Pro OEM and I'm not seeing any option in the Windows Store to get the upgrade.

Have tried forcing it to install KB 2871389 and it says that that is not applicable to this computer.

Any suggestions welcome.

I assume you activated your Windows 8 license?

I found it right in the store, first thing listed. It took a while to download, but its working just fine. I do, however, only have the regular windows 8 oem. I don't see why it would be so, but maybe pro is having issues?

I purchased a fully licensed copy of Windows 8.0 Pro X64 with my new computer last November, installed it and allowed it to activate automatically. just as I've done with other Microsoft products which I've purchased but Windows 8.0 refuses to pick up the 8.1 upgrade.

I'm now stumped - short of going back and reinstalling and updating again to see if that fixes the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Call microsoft and talk to them (or submit a bug report). They could possibly help you out.
If they can't fix it then maybe convince them to deactivate your old license and give you a key for a copy of 8.1?
