im sure it will boot but i dont think the windows 8 dvd will actually run any recovery tools. you have to create a recovery dvd/usb from inside windows first.

At this point i might just try and re-install win 8.
i find that upgrades in any OS will inherit any issues from the previous OS and add some random and strange issues into the mix.
if you have a spare HDD, install to that first, at least you then stand a chance of backing up important data before wiping the drive.
i chose the advanced option, it said it will do a clean install and put all the old data in a folder called windows.old. Do you think that would take the problems with it?

just be sure, once the install has finished, your entire directory structure will have been moved into windows.old, so space may become an issue... just delete the folder when your sure youve taken all the important data out... applications however, will need to be reinstalled.
