Hi Guys

I am at my wits end. I have windows 8 pre-installed on a HP Pavilion G6 2204-sa. My internet connection when I run speed tests on my phone shows 16mb. My friend brought his laptop round (Win7) and we got 18mb consistently. My advertised speed (and the speed I was getting when my old laptop was on windows 7 for the last 9 months) was always 17-20mb

Most 'fixes' say to open gpedit.msc but that is NOT available in this OEM version of Windows 8 so I am unable to get to the limit bandwidth option.

I have removed all bloatware, disabled unnecessary start up services and also ran the following from an elevated CMD:

netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
netsh ipv6 reset reset.log

My laptop at best gives a speedtest result of 6mb. At least 10mb less than my actual speed. In real terms though I don;t get that stably as I watch my TV live online and whilst that only streams at 720kbps I get freezing and buffering. It is not the service itself as tech have checked for issues.

All drivers are up to date as I spent a few hours making sure everything was correct. But still the issue persists. Please help, I am going mad trying to make it work.

Solution
SOLVED!!!!! :)

After going through everything feasible and trying every solution out there, it came down to the MOST SIMPLE of things to consider.
Knowing that all my drivers were latest - and even rechecking by revisiting manufacturer sites - it had to be something simple, and it comes down to default gateway within router. I tried a different router I own and remembered gateway was different on both routers. On Brightbox router it was 192.168.1.1 and on router with no issues 192.168.1.254. So, enter config on original route, change gateway address to 192.168.1.254 (in fact anything BUT 192.168.1.1) and it works a damn treat now!!

tested intensive streaming feeds on top of each other and runs to top speed :) :)

Solution
That's awesome. If I had any idea what you just said, I'd do the same. I'm screwed. My HP w/ Windows 8 is unusable on the internet. Groovy.
