[citation][nom]Thunderfox[/nom]Of course, the same kind of complaints could be made against this site... "omg! it fades out when you post a comment! so cool!""Yes, but the comment never actually appears...""STFU they need to add more cool effects!"[/citation]
😛 😛 😛

Personally, I don't need bling in my life. All the features that have appears on Tom's so far smell of bling. I hope M$ decides to include something useful, because this user experience crap is useless to me.

how about they focus on making explorer useful again by, i don't know, maybe adding folder sizes in the status bar or letting you know how much space the items in the recycle bin are taking up. or maybe even letting you see the total size of the files you selected without going into the properties menu.

AMEN. When I see the kind of pointless butchering that is done to useful features, it makes me want to hold the programmers at gunpoint and force them to answer the question:

"Do you ever actually try to USE the software that you sell?"

No one who uses their computer for anything more than facebook could approve of the dumbing down of the OS in such ways, but the people in charge just don't seem to care at all, and I simply cannot understand it. Even if you can't be bothered to *add* new features, it makes no sense to remove things that are already there.

I'll repeat myself once again - now that they've made the best OS that I've ever used, everything else is just going to start going downhill. Now we're just packing useless junk into Windows that probably nobody will ever use.

Um... I guess my girlfriend would like that. I, on the otherhand, couldn't care less about this or any of the other rumored Windows 8 features so far. I was looking forward to upgrading since I skipped Windows 7, and I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't bitch about Vista sucking.

The more and mor I hear all the new stuff with windows 8 the more and more i don't care for the direction its going. first the ribbon design feature and now suddenly they are focused on color macthing your desktop? Who cares seriously this just goest to show you how good Windows 7 is when they start focusing on stupid stuff like this.

Wait. You're telling me I could make the money those Microsoft employees make just by making an algorithm that counts the unique colors on the screen, compares frequency of occurrence, weighs the similarities, and then averages the result as the title bar color? That's a one person job in an afternoon of code right there tops! And there's a whole freaking article about it?!?

One word: Marketing.

Maybe these are deliberate leaks by the marketing wonks at M$.

If I ever switch to window 8 I will just run in the classic mode. Just like every computer I use.

[citation][nom]dougc[/nom]Thats great, just one more thing to run in the background and slow down Windows. They need to work on completely restructuring their kernel instead of "prettying up". I couldnt tell you how many Windows 7 Virus's/Malware infections I have cleaned up over the past year. What a shame. GET WITH IT Microsoft, make your system secure on its own, WITHOUTH having to run Anti-Virus/Malware scans[/citation]
Most people will ALWAYS need and AV/AS installed on their computers because almost all malware nowadays take advantage of user failures and not OS weaknesses.

Dunno why people are complaining about the use of resources. If it was an article about the latest CPU or something, they'd be complaining there isn't the software to make it worthwhile!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this actually sounds pretty awesome- it's the kind of stuff Apple does- cool stuff that makes you go wow even if it isn't a big deal. Already in Windows 7 if you scroll over a window in the taskbar it changes colors to reflect the icon- so this is just taking that one step farther.

As weird as this may sound, I would welcome this little extra feature. I've been basically doing this by hand whenever I felt like changing my wallpaper. I would adjust the theme colors to match. I actually have been doing something like it since Windows 98 when they started making a big deal about themes. I like that the color matches, so sue me.

So what should Windows 8 support? Would it make you happy if the file extension was XEX instead? There are only two primary ways that you can package an application: source and binary. Unless you just want to fill your hard disk up with non-executable source code I think you should be happy that Windows supports binaries. Actually, if Windows didn't support binaries then it would not be able to execute itself, since Windows is itself a binary distribution of an operating system, and not a source distribution.

Don't you find that distracting?

I don't think anybody really notices the changing taskbar colours, but they would notice this.

+1! Amen. I actually find Mac OS X's Finder MUCH more useful than Explorer, its pretty sad. And I found Explorer's Libraries 110% useless and rather confusing.
[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]If I have my wallpaper set to change every 10 seconds, as I currently do, will it co-ordinate in real time?[/citation]
How does that not completely drive you crazy? I couldn't handle it and would probably do something stupid like spill a drink on my keyboard.
[citation][nom]techguy378[/nom]It would be nice if Microsoft would remove support for EXE programs entirely.[/citation]
That could possibly be one of the worst business decisions of all time.

Everyone flipping poop with the "HURRR GONNA TAKE MA RESORCES" comments need to calm down. It's quite probable that you can turn this feature off and that it won't be causing your system to explode every time it has to change colors. If you care that much about your precious computer resources, then turn off aero or go install Windows 3.0, some hard core linux distro, or something. Also, transparency on and minimal color intensity = pure glass that matches everything.

@brianb23: You'd be extremely surprised what people can't do with computers, and what they find to be difficult. Burning restore CD's (not the why, the HOW TO) is a foreign concept to a lot of people, even though it shouldn't be.

Windows 8 includes a new format for binary executable programs that's based on Silverlight (appX binaries I believe). As I stated in my original post, Apple removed all support for Mac OS 9 and earlier binaries from Mac OS X. Programs for Mac OS 9 and earlier will not run under Mac OS X. That's why Apple had to include a free copy of Mac OS 9 on every Mac OS X disc for PowerPC computers.
