i have a windows 8.1 acer desktop i went and refreshed it to try and fix some start up problems now when i try and plug in my ethernet cord the lights for the ethernet port dont light up or anything and the pc woun`t detect the cable at all there is no wifi card or anything could the problem be it removed some drivers or the ethernet port bing bad i used the cord after trying on my desk top on my laptop and it workd fine. this is a new pc just got it on cristmas. pc specs acer aspire windows 8.1 4gb ram qaud core 2.41GHz I3

You pretty much answered your own question. Either the drivers need installed, the port on the desktop is bad, the port on the router/switch is bad, or the cable is bad. Just a matter of troubleshooting.
