[SOLVED] Windows 98 SE Protection Error

When I close down Windows 98 se I get the following message "Windows protection fault press any key to continue."
The computer then has to be turned off manually.

Back in the day, as I recall, these types of issues were often associated with chipset/APM driver issues. You may find it difficult to locate drivers to resolve the matter.

What are the specs for this system?

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3400MHz (3.4GHz) Socket 478
Memory: 768Mb RAM
OS Boot and Storage Drive: 200Gb IDE Hard Disk Drive

Graphics Card: nVidia Geforce 6600 GT AGP
Other: Creative Sound Blaster audio (with DOS drivers)

I know this is a Lenovo site (but it is legit) and these drivers may not work, but if me, I would try them.

However, looking at some other Intel drivers, looks like 865 support came along after XP was out. So, these drivers may/may not work.

You may also have too much ram. I've seen people mention that 98se has issues with >512MB or even as low as 256MB. Low, lol. And 256mb was ridiculous for a computer back then. Makes the 256GB in my hp z420 look absolutely absurd.
