Windows asks to startup normally?????

Hello,

I reinstalled XP Pro on an old Dell Inspiron 8600 successfully, but i have a small problem. Instead of booting up normally, the opening screen is the Microsoft black one and it offers me two choices, both identical: Start Windows Normally.

Why isn't the computer automatically doing this? I select "Start Normally", and it goes into startup like it should and functions perfectly. Did I do something wrong with the reinstall to get this black screen each startup? I'd just like to press the power button and have it go straight to normal operation without having to select the "Start Normally", or wait 30 seconds for it to auto select and do that itself when it used to function fine.

Any ideas?

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Your "problem" is easy to solve. Do this:

start, run, write msconfig, in the windows that appear select the boot tab, look for the option that say "Timeout" and set this to 5 or 10 seconds. Apply and Ok, and reboot your PC.
