My Windows Clock freezes often and I fix it by restarting the file explorer from the task manager, the problem is that is is happening 5 times per week.
Is there a way to solve the problem forever?

My PC:
Windows 11 pro 64-bit
AMD Ryzen 5 7600x
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super
Kingston FURY Beast 32GB 6000MT/s DDR5
Kingston KC3000 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI
Gigabyte UD850GM power supply unit 850 W
Monitor: Samsung - 27” ViewFinity S7 4k UHD 60Hz

is it the taskbar freezing or just the clock?

right click start
choose Terminal (Admin)
If it opens as command prompt, choose the drop down arrow in the title row and pick Powershell
copy/paste this command into window:

Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth

and press enter

Then type SFC /scannow

and press enter

Restart PC if SFC fixes any files as some fixes require a restart to be implemented

First command repairs the files SFC uses to clean files, and SFC fixes system files

SFC = System File Checker. First command runs DISM - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/what-is-dism?view=windows-11

There are a few other suggestions here:

edit: brain explosion made me type Control panel instead of Command prompt...

I tried and the watch stopped again this morning, this is a nightmare, Is Windows really this buggy without solution?

its not a normal error.

did you try all the suggestions in the Microsoft forum post I linked to? it suggests most of the fixes I would suggest
If you tried all of them and it survives a repair install it makes me wonder if its hardware

Do you have latest BIOS for motherboard?
Latest chipset drivers?

Yeah, I tried only one, but I'm slowly going to try them all. I'm scared of system restore because I don't want to loose some data. I'm updating the BIOS motherboard now through the MSI center. I'll chech the rest, but It is usually all updated, this PC I made is quite new

only use system restore if you can remember a time this didn't happen and it was only recently. It can take you back too far.

its good for recovering from drivers that mess up the install.

try all the other ones instead.

Clean boot might be answer, could be another application... its listed on that page.

which version of win 11

  1. right click start
  2. choose run...
  3. type winver and press enter
  4. current version is 24H2
if you on anything else the repair install option at bottom of that page won't work. As it needs an ISO the same version as you have installed, and MS only give out 24H2 now.

heeeyyyy, I've a 23H2, why?! I always update windows... how do I get 24H2? I'm searching info

Microsoft have a staggered release schedule for updates, you would have got it eventually. Or you can get it now:

Go here and click top link - Installation assistant
Download and run it, it will get 24H2

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11

that is how I normally get it.
It might fix this since it replaces all windows files.
Cheers, you're really helpful, Will this installation erase everything?

No, it only replaces windows. Everything else should be as it is now.
It might take a while. some people reported long update times, It does most of the action before it asks for a restart.

its the same action as if it had come through windows update, you just jumped the line. I never wait for it to offer it.

I wonder if it fixed it?

likely unrelated but 24H2 latest updates break your time zone. This morning my PC decided it was in Dublin UK and changed all my currency amounts to GBP. This would be okay if I was anywhere near UK. Other side of planet.

I can update you if it happens again, and if it happens I'll try all the other steps too. I come from Mac and It's still confusing to me that windows 11 23h2 and windows 11 24H2 are treated like two separated entity and I didn't get the 24H2 automatically.

Windows 11 gets a new version every year, which includes all the patches released up until that point. It makes it easier to reinstall windows as you just put the latest version on and only need about 5 other patches to be up to date. (Sure beats windows 7 which had about 400 patches to install by end of its life)

As I said, 24H2 is only recently released and its likely you would have got it through windows update at some stage. They just stagger the release and make sure the PC is ready to install it before its downloaded.

Hopefully the new version fixed it, I was just curious :)

Keep in mind, 24H2 is very buggy at the moment. If it hasn't shown up on your update page, it's because MS are holding back the update from your PC because of a compatibility issue with a driver, or software package, Do a restore before you do the upgrade.
oh no...I'm already regretting this, I've installed this already. I don't want buggy stuff. no problems yet... I can always install 23H2 again I hope
