Windows explorer keeps opening when I start windows. It happens on restarts and shut downs. After the computer has finished with the logon screen, the first thing that comes up is windows explorer. any ideas on how to make it stop. i use winXP pro w/ SP 1.

Another way to set Windows Explorer as a separate process is to open Start - Settings - Control Panel - Folder Options - View, and check the box for "Launch folder windows in a separate process".

As Toey said, but in the same folder options as explained above scroll down a few lines to "Restore previous folder windows at logon" and clear the box for that if in fact it has been checked.
Basically any windows open when you shutdown will be opened when you start again AFAIK, anyway see if that makes any difference.
