Accidentally deleted a huge folder from an external HHD. The only way I know of to maybe recover it is by using "Windows File Recovery".

I'm using Windows 10, on a lousy metered satellite connection. How do I download this program, where I can use it without being connected to their Store?

Oh yeah... we're poor, so please no suggestions of paying for something that was at one time free.

You need to go through the microsoft store to get the safest version from the developer.
I have no problem with downloading it from the store, but it seems that it does not install onto my computer, instead it runs 'through' the store while connected (not sure if that is an accurate description of what I'm seeing, but I'm working on only one cup of coffee, so that's the best I can do right now). Maybe I'm missing something?

Yeah... I was backing up, then got distracted by a disaster... By the time I got back, I thought I finished backing up, hit the wrong button, and poof.

Thanks for the snarky advice though. I'll try to take this as a hard learned lesson.

That said, shall I assume that I shouldn't expect any more help here?

Try the above mentioned applications.
Autopsy, for example, is very comprehensive.

But for future reference, backups are what needs to happen all the time. Not just when you think about it.
In all my house systems, any new drive gets added to the automated backup routine on Day 1.
