Windows freezing at login

Built a new computer and all is up and running fine so I decided to start my overclocking. I looked around for guides on overclocking to brush up on my knowledge and what temps to watch for and programs and all that stuff. My Q8200 is stock at 2.33GHz, without touching the voltages I got it to 2.53GHz. When I try to go any higher I get this problem, computer boots fine, get to the logon screen fine, when I log in then it freezes. My temps don't go very high either. My load temps are ~60c and idle ~45c. Does anybody have any suggestions as to why it freezes like this? I have tried a couple steps above stock voltages but nothing changed so I put it back.

Man oh man. Anything could be wrong with that. I don't even know why you bothered asking why it's crashing while you have it overclocked. You might just need to touch the voltages. Try increasing CPU, CPU-NB, NB and add a very very very small amount to your ram and make sure it is custom set to the factory defaults (if possible) otherwise just set it to the rated frequency and highest voltage by the manufacturer.

My recommended first steps to a successful overclock is to check stability at stock speeds, familiarization with bios setup on your mainboard. Check temps make sure they stay within max safe temp of your processor manufacturer. High quality cooling. The rest is you really. Voltage adjustment on the CPU, CPU-NB, NB, DDR play the biggest part

Unfortunately nVidia based motherboards can be a PITA to overclock with.
They run hot, suck tons of power and are very picky with the settings.
You are probably going to need and change quite a few settings in the BIOS to get a higher stable overclock.

TO help us help you, please post further information on your overclock.
Specifically, post what speed, voltage and timings your RAM is running at along with the voltage for your CPU and chipset.
Also be sure and post your PSU and GPU setup.

When you are overclocked to 2.53Ghz and can boot to windows, are you sure your overclock is 100% stable?
Try testing your CPU with prime95 and your RAM with Memtest.

Make sure and read through the Core 2 Overclocking Sticky if you have not already.
