My network adapter is showing the error in the subject. I'm running Windows 10. This error started after my PC went to sleep with PIA VPN active. I have uninstalled PIA and every TAP driver I can find. The only network adapter listed in Device Manager is Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. I've tried every combination of uninstall, delete driver software and reboot I can think of but the problem persists. If I try to reinstall the PIA software it gets stuck at the driver installation stage. EVERY Google result I can find talks about uninstalling Checkpoint VPN, but I've never had that, and uninstalling PIA (the only VPN I've used) seems to have no effect.

Solution
You could try this
Go to
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections
Double click on your network device, go to Properties
Delete everything in there, then using device manager, delete the network and refresh and hopefully it will reinstall non corrupted ones (if they got corrupted of course).

I uninstalled all network drivers from Device Manager in addition to deleting the networks in the network folder, in an attempt to start from scratch. No dice.

Ultimately I was able to fix the problem by using System Restore.
