This is twice now. I've have found Win Messenger Just hanging out listening
on the net when iI hadn't. Started it. I thought this is weird.. I didn't.
Like it...because I didn't ask it to. So I went to Windows components
installation and supposedly uninstalled it. I found it again with it's ear
out on the net last night. Under the processes view I always see the mess.
running even when it's uninstalled . So I shredded the messenger folder. Now
I get a Fult Message whining about starting Windows Mess. I never wanted it
to start inthe first place. 99 percent of Programs -no start when Win start-
Wait a Minute Did not I unistall it.. I'm running XP Pro w/SP2. I use Oulook
2003 for mail and that mess. box is unchecked there. Bottom Line it should
not be doing nothin or asking nothing never mind 'listenteng on the net'
Because it's suppose to be UNINSTALLED. That flags me as a security risk.
Please no offense If You have a good Eplaination,

Greetings,

Actually, if you read the description in the Add/Remove Windows Components, that does not
uninstall Windows Messenger, it simply removes it from the Start Menu. See:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/screens/winmsgrremove.png

Windows Messenger is actually used by various applications (Norton Antivirus) and other
Windows components (like Remote Assistance, Outlook Express, etc.) and as such, is why simply
removing the folder, renaming the exectuable and other tricks aren't a great idea.

You're going to have to more specific about the exact message you're seeing however to see
what's exactly causing this now.
