To contribute to this thread: I will update here later tonight, but I am currently experiencing same problem. Windows XP Pro and my motherboard ASUS M4A78L-M are not recognizing Phenom II X6 1045T AM3 cpu upgrade. Instead it's only recognizing it as (4) cores at around 800 MHz. I checked the CPU model name and HDT45TWFK6DGR is legitimate according to Wikipedia. I purchased it from Micro Center. I don't expect horror stories. So I updated the motherboard BIOS per ASUS website http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2Plus/M4A78LM/#CPUS via "BIOS Flashing Method" with help from YouTube. Neat by the way! I will update later to see if this works. Thanks.

I had a similar situation with a ASUS M4A79XTD EVO and Phenom x 4. It would only recognize 2 cores. Long story short. I had to disable "cool&quiet" in BIOS and Check Auto for ALL CORES. Not sure if this is going to be the same issue you have, or if the BIOS will be similar but might be worth a look.

Thanks walterminty. I took your advise in consideration.

Alright--Here's my Update. It worked! The BIOS recognized the new cpu. And I used default values on Bios. And it showed Cool'n'Quiet was enabled. I didn't manually adjust anything with the CPUs. However there's nothing like a fresh install; like I used to once a year, etc. Thank you all! Peace.
