Windows repair reboots with 25 minutes remaining

Hi, I am doing a repair install of windows xp home edition. It starts the gui part of the install, asks to set regional options etc, then counts down time remaining to 25 minutes remaining. The green bar almost gets to the end of the bar then the PC reboots. It is stuck in a "loop" and always stops at this point. I have had no issues with the machine reading the cd. It does not appear to be ram as the ram issue would have shown up earlier in my experience. Any ideas?

Could be corrupt sectors on the disk ... are you able to run chkdsk ?
(put as 2nd drive in another computer if needed)

Thanks for your thoughts. I did slave the drive but it would not read and when I checked Disk management it said it needed to be activated, then formatted so I wanted to try recover the data but eventually I did a full format, after discussing with client and it seems to be OK now. Seems Windows was Fubar after a power-cut.
