windows restore point error 0x80070017

Hi

I've been away for about 2 months and just came back to find my desktop computer not starting up. It tries to repair it self but keeps restarting. I've tried to do a system restore and it still wont work. It keeps coming up with this error message.



Apparently no have used my desktop, but some how it managed to stuff up by it self. Appreciate any help/comment

wont start up in safe mode either. takes me straight to repair options and it cant repair the error. other options are:

windows memory diagnostic

What's the exact error it gives when you try to boot?

windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

dont think this was the original error message.

i do have my windows 7 disk, can i repair it with the cd without losing data?

i try the files repair with the cd .

it wont boot the cd on startup and i cant boot the cd in cmd either. Not sure if im using the right commands though. ive googled it and still cant boot the cd.

could you enter the bios and see if cd could be set as 1 boot device .

yep that worked but even with the cd repair tool, it cant repair it. also got this message " remove camera/music device or usb and try restarting windows. nothing is plugged in.

then we will try the cmos reset buy shutting system off remove the ac power then press power button to drain left over power lift off the motherboard bettery for around 30 sec the put her back and replug the ac and try to start up .

unplug keyboard and mouse the replug them in one at the time to see what happens or if you have some other part around try them .

does it give you a blue screen code or error that wil help with the details of them.

it gives me a blue screen on start up but only for like 2 seconds.

Give it a couple hours

Make sure it's your windows directory.

Sounds like a bad disk though.

do you have a way to test that hdd in another system .

im planning on buying a cradle and trying to transfer the data on to another hard drive. hopefully that works...

try it in a friend computer before buying anything to see if you could acces the data if you could not see the data then you will not be able to transfer anything .
