The last time Windows Search worked was today at 15:30, then I shut my laptop down and when I turned it back on, boom didn't work. I've tried everything, from restarting the process itself in task manager to re-installing packages in Windows Powershell. But nothing seems to work, troubleshooting showed no problems, Windows update didn't work. Help, this laptop is literally only 5 days old, my old laptop which is 6 years old NEVER encountered this problem.

I'm using Windows 10 Home 1903

Solution
We're on 1909 for Windows 10, instead of tinkering with the underside of the OS(which it dislikes) update the OS and see if the issue persists. If that doesn't solve the issue, reinstall the OS, making sure you're on the latest BIOS for your laptop(prior).

If your Windows Search is being grayed out like what everyone else is experiencing, you can disable the Bing search integration that is causing the problem.

Right click the Windows button to get to "Run", then type in "regedit" to access the Registry Editor

Navigate to the following path: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

Once you get there, right click to make a new DWORD-32 file and call it "BingSearchEnabled". Right click that file you just made and click "Modify". Make sure it is set to 0.

Once that is finished, restart Windows and it should resume function

Just wanted to say this didn't work for me.

edit: in the same area, I changed this

"Make sure that the key, Cortana Consent is 0"

Mine was set to 1. Now my bar loads up, so all fixed!

Windows 10 search feature has been very helpful to me. Sometimes I could not remember on what folder I saved my file such as homeworks, documents, etc., so I would just go ahead and click Windows 10 logo then type the name of the file that I'm looking for then viola! I'm able to get result every time. But just a few days ago, I had hard time getting my file as this search feature refused to work. I even restarted my computer twice but no luck. Microsoft has not released windows update yet that would fix the issue as of this moment.

I listed two easy fixes that helped me to get Windows 10 search problem resolved.
