I just bought a new barebone PC. Intel P4 2.8ghz. The motherboard is an ECS 648FX-A. I took the hard drive, ram, video card, and cd-rom drive from my old computer and put it in the barebone. 2 strange things happen. When I connect the IDE ribbon to the HD and CD-ROM drive, it only reads the CD-ROM when it boots up. If i just connect it to the hard drive it detects the hard drive and comes to that screen where i have to choose safe mode... or windows normally etc. No matter what i choose, safe mode, or windows, the pc just reboots. Can someone please help?

*sorry if this was the wrong section to post this in*

ok, I'll attempt to answer both of your questions. There are jumpers next the power connection on the cd-player and harddrive. Did you set it so that the hardrive jumper is located in "master" and cd-player is located in "slave?" If it doesn't say where you should place the jumper or don't wanna experiment and try, then just take them out (I think it shoudl be fine) and place the hd on the top most connection of the cable and the cd-player on the second (if possible, if not, just get another cable, they're dirt cheap) when you leave the jumpers out, that puts the setting to "cable selct" which means that the cable will decide which is the slave or master. As for windows xp, how did you get the windows xp? if you were a law-abiding citizen and either bought ur copy or it came with a computer u bought....then thats the prob. Try to get a corporate XP version from your friend, or you can call microsoft saying that you upgraded your new mobo and they MIGHT be helpful, some technicians will give you a new liscense key to use. I hope this helps, good luck

The person who built my first PC installed it for me. I'm only a novice when it comes to computers, but does that matter? I'm using the hard drive right now on this PC. Shouldn't I just be able to stick it in my new machine and it boot up fine?
