Hi all,

I just finished setting up a home network (2 computers) and my Windows Xp Pro automatically installed its FireWall.

Since security is really not an important issue for me (no important data, surfing only very safe sites)I was wondering if I should disable it. I wouldn't mind keeping it either, as long as it is not slowing my internet down.

In other words, I heard that firewalls can slow down connections, and was wondering if that is true + if it is any significant amount?

Thanks,

Ps. I have cable

I don't even believe in JEBUS!
Homer, you are on the flight to a remote island where you will be doing some missionary work.
SAVE ME JEBUS!!!!!!

Well, unless you like reinstalling your system every week or so, then I'd suggest you leave the firewall installed. Especially since you have an "always on" connection (cable). Even though you think you are going to visit very safe sites, someone could drop a trojan into an unsecured machine and basically look at what you're doing from it, sorta like them sitting at your chair and watching you type in your password. it's true that a firewall can slow down your connection, but its usually nothing significant. Also, dump the built in microsoft firewall, get something better like sygate personal firewall (free) or Zone Alarm (there's a free edition).
