Recently i formatted my computer and ever since then a message appears before the actual desktop asking which operating system to start. Then it has underneath that 1)microsoft windows xp home edition,
2)microsoft windows xp home edition,
which is the same thing obviously, however if i click on the first one the the computer works fine ,the second one it says windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. What i would like to know is, how to get rid of this list by making the computer autmatically choose the first windows xp.

You need to edit the boot.ini file so that only the primary partition that actually contains the operating system and boot record is listed.
