Hi! There's nothing like the feeling of laying down $200 for windows XP Professional, and all you end up with is a STOP error and a memory dump. I hope I don't deter anyone from this MB, its just been in my instance getting an OS installed has been a pain. I've also tried with win2000, and I'm getting nearly the same errors. I'm wondering if it is the Hercules 4500 vid card. I've got the latest official bios, the bios is set to a bare minimum of enabled goodies (I've even disabled L1/L2 cache for the time being) The STOP error I received, well one of them is a 0x0000000A which is the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I'm going to try and follow Microsoft's article's to try a few things. I want to believe the vid card would not cause any troubles, because the standard VGA driver loads just fine for win98se, so I'm assuming XP would be able to do the same. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this problem, or knows where I should focus my attempts. Here's my junk-

-ECS K7S5A (w/ latest official bios)
-512MB Crucial DDR-RAM (I've pulled one out for installation purposes, so I'm installing with 256MB)
-Pioneer 16x DVD
-AMD 1200
-Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 64mb
-IBM 20GB 60gxp (7200rpm)
-Enermax whisper, 350W
-Sony floppy drive <-- I think it makes the not so good noise, I would not recommend, but it does work fine
-cpu stays stable around 41c
-also, using a Belkin KVM switch, and hi-grade cables
I am booting from the CD, the error occurs way into the installation, after checking the time is correct, keyboard layout, etc.

nope, got the same probs with the k7s5a, would restart a few times on a cold boot, until it got to win2000, and i'd get memory dumps here and there.

Today, I think I'm going to try and swap vid cards with my older system I'm using right now. And then I figure this board has about a week before I count my losses and try an Epox 8kha+, I think that's the one. Another user of the k7s5a has said he replaced with that board, and has had nothing but sweet blessings since. I can't believe how much hype is surrounding this board. I would say for those looking at this board, demand may have increased so much for this board as of recent, that quality may have been lowered to meet this new demand. Just my opinion. So, if you don't mind playing with the board for awhile, a few many hours when you consider the time needed to install an OS, then try the board. But considering I'm a full time student, I really don't have the kind of time this board needs.
