I may want to upgrade to Windows XP and am wondering from those of you who have had the beta what you think about its performance on my machine. Here are the specs:
-Intel Celeron II 633MHz
-192 MB SDRAM
-66 MHz FSB

I know, it's not an impressive system, please just tell me if you think WinXP would run at a fairly acceptable speed on this machine. Thanks

Stick with Win2K if you already have that.

I think it would be fine. The min requirements are 233 MHz, but 350 is recommended.

I'm only running it on my pII-400 and there is a noticable speed improvement on that.

You won't be too bad, you have enough RAM. Windows XP is very response, perhaps even more so than Windows 2000 but it need lots and lots of RAM to work quickly. You have enough!

I Just installed it on my machine but found that there are no drivers for my machine for my Voodoo3. So i'm stuck using drivers that have no 3d support so i'm tri booting win2k, winME and win XP.

That's because 3dfx doesn't exist anymore so they can't make Windows XP drivers.

I kno, but it still would've been nice if Nvidia would've written drivers for XP. Oh well.

I have drivers for 3dfx and XP. You didn't search did you? There is a whole thread by me with the answer for your problem. Search. I actually get better FPS with XP.

No need to really tri-boot. The only reason I can think of is:

1) WinXP doesn't support JAVA. So until Sun and Microsoft come to some kind of agreement I think we're SOL.
2) You're unlucky enough to have a device where you absolutely can't find any drivers yet. I have none, but I have heard stories of some devices not working. There is a forum (see below) that I have found really useful for finding drivers.

Nice, but what about Voodoo4 and Voodoo5? My secondary PC is running a Voodoo4!

There is a link on <A HREF="http://www.3dfx4xp.cjb.net/" target="_new">http://www.3dfx4xp.cjb.net/</A> to <A HREF="http://3dfxunderground.cjb.net" target="_new">http://3dfxunderground.cjb.net</A> for the V4/5, but I see a note saying the drivers have been removed until the release of WinXP. So you should be alright in a couple of days. Check back then I guess.

Dhluke, windows xp DOES support java, you just have to download it from the microsoft update site. Microsoft didnt ship java included on the cd to piss sun off.

Ah, it works. Just take that off my lists of negatives then. Oh wait, that pretty much brings my negatives down to zero.
