I plugged two 8pin connectors into my zotac 970 amp omega and after turning the pc on, I smelled burnt Plastic... I had previously had the 970 running fine with an 8 pin and a 6 to 8pin, but I wanted to support two full 8pin connections before I attempted to OC.

The card still powers up as far as I can tell in the configuration I used previously. All the leds and the fan turn on. Still, the card won't output video now. I took a picture of what I believe to be the affected connection that blew. Should I try to fix this myself (have access to am electronics lab at college) or is there any way this would be under warranty (card is 1 week old)?

Thank you!

The OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W (OCZ600MXSP) never came with two (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors. It only came with one 6-pin and one (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors. Connecting the 8-pin CPU power connector into the graphics card's PCIe power socket will cause a direct short circuit and burn out traces on the graphics card's circuit board before any protection circuit has time to kick in.
I am just don't understand how the hell it happened. I have a 600W psu, and the card has two 8pin inputs. I simply hooked it up directly to my psu with two 8pin to 8pin and it blew. Is my psu likly a pos?

Looking at the back of the psu, there are two 8 pin modular connections and 4 6pin. I did not plug or split the cpu 8pin. But I should have gotten a better power supply for the card and carefully read the specs. I'm going to pick up a 750 W corsair supply and try not to be careless in the future.
