Hey guys, I cant believe there isnt another forum on the internet discussing this already... but My wireless network disappeared a couple minutes ago. its does this everytime i try to join a network. it fails, then disapears. Im currently on the network that Im trying to access wirelessly. I dont understand what is going on. I was having slow connections with 1 wireless card, and then i got this one, which sort of worked well (still not as well as my laptop) but semi well for about a year. are all desktop wireless cards just garbage now? i spent alot of money on this one and it cant even hold a signal for longer than 3 seconds.... it sees all the other wireless networks just fine but not mine anymore... is there some weird setting on the card that i need to change or something? ive tried resetting the router multiple times and had no luck. I dont know what to do. thanks for anything you guy might be able to provide. I hate asking for help but im gonna throw the computer out the window if this goes on for another second.

Solution
It really sounds like it is currently set up to channel bond, you should get a copy of the manual and determine how to set it to use a single channel. In some routers it is just using a setting for 145Mb rather than 300Mb speed.
There are a couple of things to try. First you can enter network control panel, manage wireless networks and delete all your wireless networks, then restart, allow discovery of all wireless networks and then select your network and enter the passkey and select connect automatically.

If that doesn't solve your connection, I would change the wireless adapter MAC address using THIS program, which will save your old MAC.

Thank you for your fast response. I did delete my connection and restarted my computer. However, when i did that the connection came back for a moment but once the connection failed, the Network disappeared again.

The tool you provided to change the mac address was successful however, it also didn't fix my problem :/

can you think of anything else?

I did delete all other previous drivers. Yes other people are connected to the network. And yes the SSID is being broadcasted. Dont know about the mac addressing but I'm assuming it is fine since everyone else in the house can connect fine. there are 2 other computers connected. I am ready to buy a new card i just hope it fixes the problem 🙁

nvm I figured it out. here it is

And I was mostly just having trouble physically printing the data from the command line into this forum. thats what my question was... I figured out a simple ipconfig /all >c:\ip.txt command could be used to print it out. then I just transfered that through a flash drive to the computer im on now to copy and past it to this forum. Thanks again

I would download and run inSSIDer that is a free network analyzer from HERE to determine if you are having some specific interference issue.

I would also look at the router settings since you are getting .100 as a preferred address and insure that you are not on any QoS protocol, and perhaps just allow the router to give you a random rather than preferred address.

Ok I do not see a setting for QoS protocol but I do not think its enabled since everyone else is connecting. I did however download your program and I see my network again finally! The signal moves around but mostly stays around a signal strength of about 70? It also disapears and re-appears on this program as well. My computer also automatically connected to my network after launching the program, but im still not getting internet. security type looked pretty standard WPA2-personal. And had what looked like a normal mac address. Only weird thing about my network is that it has a green star next to it and its on channel 1? is that normal? if not, how can I change it? is there also another screen I can open to see any other data that might be impacting my connection? Thanks!

Ok wait, I did some more resarch. the signal is 70dB but I dont think that is my signal strength. my signal strength is horribly spotty. I also have placed my laptop right next to where my desktop is and ran the same program to find that my signal strength on my laptop is perfectly solid green. Where as with my desktop it is barley showing up and when it does it is orange/ yellow. my laptop picks this network and many others really well but my desktop picks up very few as green. Now do you think I need a new wireless card? also, my roomate walked out in front of my door and my signal strength got much better for a second and then after she walked away it got much worse again.

It could just be an interference problem related to other users and/or you location -- wireless is bad that way. A new adapter may or may not help. Does your current adapter have removable antennae?

Any chance of adding an access point to the network?

It does have removable antenna. And actually I started moving them around and started getting better signals. What I don't understand is why my extremely old and very cheap laptop is getting a better signal than my very expensive desktop equipped with a very expensive, very large, and brand new wireless adapter... I would add an access point but its ridiculous that this computer cant figure this out and my laptop can.. I got a signal yesterday after using your very helpful tool and a program called NetSockFix but it was very flaky, slow, and eventually cut out again all over. I am still thinking this is a card problem

Wireless networking is complicated by interference and the adapters/drivers. In the exact same location, is your laptop wireless stable? Also consider that the antennae of PCIe card are down behind the large metal case that will block much of the signal. If you get a new adapter, make sure that it has good size antennae like THIS, which has a replaceable antenna that can be swapped out to a large grid antenna even.

I would seriously consider an alternate plan though, as -70 is not a great signal, especially as you say that it is spotty. I would either add a wireless access point near your desktop or just use a pair of good powerline adapters from the router to desktop (like the Zxyel PLA5205kit, the fastest one available).

Yes the laptop is very very stable around -60dB and is getting extremely fast download speeds from the same location. I guess the metal plates could be causing interference but I was hoping to solve the issue another way. Its ok I guess I'll just buy another adapter. It just sucks i spent so much money on it. I thought even a bad full size NIC would be much better than a tiny little laptop one but I guess not.

Ok, I bought another card and Im getting the same problem... My laptop and other laptops are still doing great from the exact same location, and I had great internet connections on this computer before i moved... Do you think maybe its my motherboard? Or is this software related? Any help would be great

Ya, I moved the router closer and started getting faster speeds than my laptop. Strange I guess the cards are faster but work on a shorter range? Guess its not software related or mother board related because when i moved the router closer I connected to the internet fine and with faster speeds than both the laptops.. Now though, when i am testing my internet speed on a speed website my original card would get high speeds and cut out about every second down to a speed of 0 and then back up. The new NIC, gets slightly less speed (but still faster than the laptop) but is consistent without the drops. Do you think that means my first card is dropping packets? If so, i might keep the new card. Oh, and one other thing. sometime my router (which is now manually set to stay at channel 1) switches itself to channel 1+5 and the internet for all the computers in the house either stops or goes really really slow. I tried configuring it on the 192.168.0.1 web address and I switched it from automatic to manual at channel 1 but it doesnt seem to be helping. Do you know why it changes its channel to 1+5 instead of just channel 1? I would like to find out because it really sucks when the internet for the whole house goes out.

Wireless is a mystery wrapped in an enigma -- a single steel girder in a building can wreak havoc, and you cannot see what is going on around you.

Use inSSIDer to pick the optimal channel and then set that as a fixed channel in the router instead of auto -- auto channel select introduces more uncertainty. Check that your router firmware is up to date, and consider using 6 or 11. If there is nobody anywhere near you with any significant channel strength, you can consider channel bonding -- using 1 plus 6 or 6 plus 11 to use a 40MHz wide N channel, but otherwise stay with a 20MHz wide channel on the most open frequency. I expect that in New York you will need to stay with a single band. The router should not change channels if you set it to a specific channel.

One real issue with 2.4GHz wireless, is that lots of things work at that frequency -- wireless phones (go with the 1.9GHz Panasonic DECT phones), baby monitors, wireless speakers, microwave ovens, and a whole lot of other stuff that is only on periodically so very difficult to detect.

And remind me of the model of your wireless router.

Ya I agree that it should be set to a single channel especially in this city because my wifi pretty much drops out every time it goes to that channel. the weird part, is that it is set to a manual channel of 1 (ive also tried 7 to wich it did a 7+11channel that caused the same problem) so I dont know why it still does what it wants! lol the wireless router is "build in" to our modem from Time Warner and it just says ARRIS. It must be there most up to date router since we got it a couple days ago.

You know... Im not next to my router now but Im almost certain I saw that setting! I was wondering why it would be a setting to have it do 300Mbs or to not do it... now i know! Great Ok I will try and change that setting tonight (assuming I saw that option correctly) and I bet it will fix the prob. Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks

The 300Mb choice turns on channel bonding (so uses two 20MHz channels) and is difficult in crowded areas as it actually has a signal on about 82% of the available 2.4GHz space. I would expect that your neighbors will be happier too.
