Hello,

My dad wants to set up a wireless network in his home for
filesharing between his desktop and laptop machines. He
does not have high-speed Internet.

Can I set up a wireless network for him? The routers I
have looked at all say high-speed internet connection is
a requirement. I think I should simply be able to skip
that step, but I do not want to buy him the equipment if
it is not possible.

Thank you.

You can depending on the router you choose. Some routers will have a
bridge mode or access point mode that will allow you to share a dial-up
or other Internet connection that can't be shared by the router. They
also make routers that share a dial-up connection as well.

other then Microsoft.
