I have a zalman 9500 and although i tighten it as far as i can it can still rotate slightlty on the die. Does any1 else have one with this problem or have i mounted it incorrectly. Not happy with my idle (36) or load temps (43) anyway and this could explain it.

Cheers in advance

I have the same problem. When I had my 939 system the 9500 was on their nice and tight but since upgrading to core 2 its wobbly. My temps are a bit high as well. What motherboard are you using? I'm using an asus P5b Deluxe.

I have a bfg 680i sli. All the mounting though is done by the actual mount that is screwed into the mobo tho. I think the prob could be poor design. THe actual mounting arm is round and the mounting point on the socket is round so its no wonder that the cooler can rotate freely. I think that the arctic cooler has set, so my idles have dropped down a little, plus ive realised how ludicrously hot my room is. With the window open and door on my praetorian open i get idles of 30 and peaks of 41 under full load. Part of my temp probs could be the 8800, I remember when i went from ATI 9600 to x800 my temps went up by about 4-5.

I believe this is fairly normal. I can turn mine slightly also, even though I have a completely different mount. Load temps of 41 are rather cool! 8)
Dont even give it a second thought unless your load temp get into the mid-high 50s.
My zalman took my load temps from ~55 on stock cooler to ~45! Im very happy with mine. Note I'm running a 20% overclock.

I have the Zalman 9500 on the Evga 680i. I can turn it with my hand only slightly. Overall its a good fit and does a good job at keeping the temps down.

Its that slight degree of turn i dont like, call me anal if u will. No disrespect to the cooler either, have always been a big zalman fan (no pun intended). Its just the degree of turn is just enough to make me nervous. With the window open am idleing at 30 so its doing a good job too. May invest in another exhaust fan at easter and then call it a day. (gave up opening my pc for lent)

yes this is normal although as with the 9700 you`d think that so much pressure would actually crack the CPU :)
