[citation][nom]dgingeri[/nom]Apple makes ~50% profit, not counting software costs, from the iPad while it is made in China. If it were made here by union workers, it would cost $200 more and Apple might make $5 profit. They'd never be able to pay their developers.[/citation]If costs go up, sale price goes up. Their profit margin would shrink (as a percentage at the least), but there's no way they'd sell it at a "$5 profit". A $500 unit would cost $700 now.
Although, even if they DID sell it at a thinner margin (maybe not $5, but something like $50-100), they'd still be able to "pay their developers" since they get a cut of everything you buy for your iDevices - apps, games, movies/TV, music, books, etc. But they wouldn't be the profit monster they are now.
Edit: In case you're confused, I wasn't advocating for a union-built iPad. Quite the opposite.
